Manufacturing process in AX 2012 R2

Dear members,

I am in a trouble to implementing manufacturing process by use of AX 2012 R2. The production process is as following.

The production environment is job shop in which, I have considered every shop as an operation. So, every finished good (product type=formula) has to go through some operations to be completed. The problem is here that every semi finished goods can be considered as finished good and therefore, should be able to stock or sell.

For example, consider A as a row material. Oper1 is performed and A would become B. In the next step Oper2 would be performed and B become C.

Below, production and formula setting are presented.

Item A: Production type= None

Item B: Production type= Formula  , A is ingredient for producing B   ,   Route= Oper1

Item D: Production type= Formula  , B is ingredient for producing D   ,   Route= Oper2

Now, I have run batch order over item D. So, in this case item D would be added to inventory by running Report As Finished. But, in our business, in the middle of the process, we decide to sell item B separately without performing Oper2.

Here is a place where my question comes up. How can I add item B to inventory in the middle of the batch order process while Report As Finish is just over last operation (item D).

I would be appreciated if anyone can help me out.

Your item B is an item itself, so you need to break production down and have these as sub-assemblies that are stocked and drawn out for sale, so they are an item with a route and BOM themselves.

"Thanks in advance to your reply. Could you please clarify how I can break down production process and add Item B to inventory."

You set it up as an item and you manufacture it, so item b is in the BOM rather than be transitionary through the process. It has to be an item to stock and sell, simply add it as an item and into the BOM, make it independently or dependently or both depending upon demand, you could also have it as a pegged supply in some BOM's so it is always made and retain a safety stock to sell it, the choice is yours.

I have set formula line type as "Item" and run batch order over item D. At this moment, based on batch order the item B would be picked up and  item D would be produced. If I set formula line type as "pegged supply", batch order would be discreted into two batch orders. The first one contain item A as an ingredient and item B as a finished product.  The second one contain item B as ingredient and item D as finished product.

In this situation we can control Item B which in first batch order it is added and in second one it is deducted.

when I set formula line type on "Item" I can't implement this scenario for item B.

It would be nice if you kindly provide me exact setting and process that I should follow to handle this issue.

Well I would set it as an item to handle dependent and independent demand - if needed I would stock it for sale in a warehouse that is not production with a safety stock. It really depends upon the items demand profile and how you want to stock it. Setting it as an item works because it is an item and can be consumed or sold - the rest is about how you control it and manage the process.

Could you set up product B as a c-product, but with a 0 quantity, and then report that out as finished during the production reporting?

Setting Up product B as Co-Product is a solution but it has formula itself and sometimes producing B is target. So, we have to set it as "Formula" and record a "Batch Order" over product B.

if i understand your question right:

    1. You will have a batch order for B.

    2. You will have a batch order for D which will consume B.

Now the case is you do not want to process the batch order for D instead sell B directly??

You can close out the production order for B and take it to stock and simply delete the production order for D which you are not producing. I am not sure if i am getting your process right.

if tat still does not answer ur question...please share the screenshot of formula designer for item D(fully expanded).

The formula does not really matter, it is the understanding of the demand that is crucial. At times they want to stock it and sell it and others make it. This means in the formula where they always want a 1:1 relationship with the parent it should be pegged production, where it can draw stock it is item, if they want to sell it then they stock it in a different warehouse. It is the balance of dependent and independent demand and then the controls in place to differentiate this.
