Trigger Double Opt-In "manually"

Hi all,

I am currently doing first steps with the marketing app and trying to understand the possibilities while working with double opt-in.

I understand that we can create a landing page and configure double opt-in (either form based or global) so that the users gets an confirmation e-mail after he submits the page.

For our use case we would like to use our own website and CMS there. So we will have multiple custom forms with user input that will be saved into the CRM and create new contacts.

If the contact also accepts our privacy policy and wants to subscribe to newsletters we want to trigger the double opt-in Mail from inside CRM for that contact.

I don't want to send him a separate subscription form again and then trigger the DOI as that would be bad for conversation rate.

I checked the customer journeys but I can't select the DOI Mail here and send it to specific users.

In a similar matter what would be the best solution for customers that call us for service requests or information? Can we also just trigger the doi mail after they agreed on the phone to subscribe to the newsletter or do we really have to send them a subscribtion page first?

Many regards,

    Hi Marcel,

Yes, a link to subscription center is required to be embedded in all of marketing emails,(Except DOI confirmation email, which is special.)

therefore, customers are able to manage their subscription by themselves in that page after receiving marketing email.

You could refer to introduction of subscription center and check it would fit for your case.

    Hi Clofly,

thanks for the reply again. I think I will talk to our customer success manager at microsoft and check what the process would be.

I noticed that you can send an email containing a link to the subscription center. So that the customer could subscribe himself. I will see if that would fit our use case.

    Marcel

    Hi Marcel,

As per my understanding, were you concerned about DOI email wouldn't be sent out when a contact was added to a subscription list manually by CRM user?(From my test, it didn't send the DOI email actually.)

I didn't find such a field which could be used to trigger the DOI process, please open a support ticket for further assistance if you need to do customization based on it.

    Hello again Clofly,

    I understand.

We want to make sure that our customers went through the DOI process and want to use the system default if possible.

However I don't think it's possible to send everyone the landing page first and then again the DOI mail. We would have different customer sources where the customer can already accept the first checkbox for newsletter and then just has to receive the DOI.

Do you know what fields are set on the contact when he accepts the DOI and if it's possible to use a custom email and implement a simple logic to trigger the same fields that the default DOI Mail would do?

    Regards,

    Marcel

    RE: Trigger Double Opt-In "manually"

    Hi Marcel,

    1. You could follow the steps by documentation to enable form level DOI:

    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365/marketing/form-double-opt-in

When the DOI is configured, confirmation email will be sent to contact automatically, therefore, we don't need to add confirmation email in customer journey manually.

The process that how DOI works can be found here:(The second paragraph, process of global level is similar to form level.)

    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365/marketing/double-opt-in

However, I never tested that  whether the confirmation email would be automatically send out when adding contact to a list manually.

    2. As what documentation described for how does DOI work:(The first paragraph of the second link.)

DOI process asks contacts who sign up for a new subscription list, or who choose to increase their level of data-protection consent, to confirm their request by clicking on a link sent to their registered email address.

As per my understanding towards your case, if Bulk Email field(in Contact form > Details > Contacts preferences section.) is set to Allow, the contact will always be participated in customer journey and receive marketing email.

In a word, DOI is a confirmation process and it is a system setting which is controlled by us.

    Regards,

    Clofly

    Hi Clofly,

thanks for the reply. What do you mean with subscription list? Is there a way to automatically send a DOI if a customer is added to a subscription list? That could work for our use case when we add contacts to a list and it will trigger the DOI.

How would you handle the case if you have a contact in CRM (already existing or coming form another system) and want to get him to accept DOI and use him in the customer journey?

    Regards,

    Marcel

    Hi Marcel,

    Thanks for your feedback!

However, as documentation described: either global or form level, only subscription list and consent level are supported with DOI confirmation email at present.

Please submit your thought to Ideas forum.

    Regards,

    Clofly
