BC16.4 - Platform and System Version are different

Hello,

I'm facing an odd problem. I've uninstalled my 16.2 Business Central On Premise, and then installed Business Central 16.4 On Premise, with the install from this link : https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=101732

The install is ok. But when I run BC on Edge, it displays this message :

I've checked on VSCode after having Download Symbols : my System version is the one is called "Server version" on the message.

In Business Central Administration, my BC16.4 Server Instances are in the "Server version" number.

When I try to update my database from 16.0.13xxxx to 16.0.14xxxxx, with the cmdlet : Invoke-NAVApplicationDatabaseConversion -DatabaseServer LAPTOP-9NIBFRHS -DatabaseName "PRIMUS-WINE-BC"

I get the error message :

Invoke-NAVApplicationDatabaseConversion : A technical upgrade of database 'PRIMUS-WINE-BC' on server 'LAPTOP-9NIBFRHS' cannot be run, because the database’s application version '130711' is greater than or equal to the platform version '130711'.

So I think my platform version is 130711, where my System version is 14xxxxx.

How can I upgrade my Platform version please ? One of my collegue installed BC OnPrem 16.4 and have a "Client version" of

I have the same question (0)

    Sorry.

One of my collegues installed BC OnPrem 16.4 and have a the same "Client version" and "Server version" when they check on BC client.

I've found the problem. My Web Server Instance in my IIS has been created under BC16.1, and I was using it with my BC16.4. When I created a new Web Server Instance, it worked. I don't see the previous error message on BC saying the two version numbers are different.

I see this ine Help & Support menu :

    pastedimage1599037695816v1.png

But something confusing here is the name "Platform", refering to the Web Server Instance. Because when I tried to update my database version, I had this error message :

    pastedimage1599037836582v2.png

Talking about a "platform" here, which is not the same "platform" we can see in the Help & Support menu on BC, refering to the Web Server Instance.

    Hi,

Good to know you found the original problem! The version numbers you are seeing in the Help & Support are the right ones, i.e. basically Application Build 16.4.15445, Platform Build 16.4.15420. You can also see these version numbers in the title of the KB article for BC 16.4 here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4563415/update-16-4-for-microsoft-dynamics-365-business-central-2020-release-w

You are right to surmise that the 130711 platform version number you are seeing in the warning message you referred to is not meant to relate to the other platform number despite the confusing name. This is an internal number which can be also be seen in the $ndo$dbproperty table.

BTW: The message you are seeing from Invoke-NAVApplicationDatabaseConversion is recorded as a warning to indicate that the application database is already compatible with the new platform, which happens when the update does not make any schema changes to the system tables.

    Hope that helps.
