Inventory Pick issue during Release to Warehouse process

Hello Experts,

I created a Sales Order (SO0427422) with a quantity of 1. Based on the reservation setup, the quantity was automatically reserved. Then after created Production Order (PR1386409) directly from the sales order line.
Following this:
After run the Report as Finished (RAF) process for that production order. As expected, the inventory transactions reflected the completed quantity in both the Physical Inventory and Available Inventory on exact dimensions columns — indicating the inventory movement was correctly recorded up to the RAF process.

Inventory transaction after RAF as below : qty is reserved against the Batch number (combination of date and Production Order No).

However, upon running the Release to Warehouse process, the system picked the quantity based on FIFO logic, and from a different production order, instead of using the quantity produced by the production order (PR1386409) that was specifically created and marked against the sales order.

Why did the system not allocate or pick inventory from the production order (PR1386409) that was directly linked to the sales order line, even though the quantity was produced and available?

Picked qty from different Batch number (here different production order No is PR1386387)
Can anyone guide me on how to resolve this issue? I need to ensure that inventory is always picked from the production order that is specifically marked to the sales order, rather than from another available batch based on FIFO.

    Hi Nimi,

You mentioned that during the creation of the sales order the goods were reserved before creating the production order. Have you checked the reservation details after creating the production order? Was this still reserving another batch that was linked to the sales order when you created it?

What André mentions is definitely a clue.

The reservation hierarchy is what matters (not marking). You have a batch tracked item but from the behavior it looks like reservation does not include Batch above the location; your item is likely setup with reservation hierarchy with ``Batch Below" location.

If that is the case, reservation on Sales Order line is Site, Warehouse, Inventory Status.  This explains why a quantity already in stock was reserved automatically (batch number does not matter if batch below).

Work created from releasing that sales order would be for the first location where that item can be found.  Work is created for a specific location and when the LP is picked, the system now has the full set of inventory dimensions so the picked Batch number would be deducted and appear in that SO line transactions.

If you want to reserve the batch manufactured for that specific sales order, change the reservation hierarchy to one that is 'Batch Above'.
