Unable to View the SSRS Reports in Visual studio

Hello all,

I am unable to preview SSRS Reports from Reports project when viewed on VS 2010.

I am currently with VS 2010 with Dynamics AX 2012 R3 and with SQL Server 2014 on Back-end. I get following error:

"Unable to preview the report, install the Business Intelligence Development Studio feature of Microsoft SQL Server. For more information, see http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=212331.

Has anybody else faced this problem specifically on Dynamics AX 2012 R3 with SQL Server 2014 as Database??

if you are using AX 20120-R3, and on other hand you are using SQL 2014, you have to install BIDS components from SQL 2008R2.

kindly run setup of SQL 2008R2 and install BIDS. This is strange to install BIDS of a lower version (SQL2008R2), while you  are using SQL2014, But you  have to do it, if you want to customize reports

    No

    Visual studio will be 2010.

For AX201-R3 following is needed, to modify reports

Visual studio 2010 with VS 2010 SP1 and BIDS of SQL 2008R2 and third VS tools (by AX Setup)

Remember you don't have to install SQL 2008R2 full.

you have to only install BIDS components from setup.

    Hi all,

one more info, you can (able+allowed) use the SQLServer2008 Express version (with Advanced Services) for setup BIDS.

    regards

With AX 2012 R3 CU8 you must be use Visual Studio 2013 or later.

The requirement for VS2013 in AX2012 R3 R3 CU8 can be seen in the Technet article

    https://blogs.msdn.microsoft.com/axsupport/2014/11/24/visual-studio-tools-for-microsoft-dynamics-ax-2012-r3-cu8-now-requires-microsoft-visual-studio-2013/

I added some more details on this here.
