Update hangs during update of SL2011 SP1 to SL 2011 FP1 creating database triggers

I am updating SL 2011 SP1 to SL2011 FP1. When I update the databases, I get a message to re-apply login credentials. Then the update gets to the point where it is creating database triggers and just hangs there. Any ideas as to what may be causing this?

Thank you,

Deb

RE: Update hangs during update of SL2011 SP1 to SL 2011 FP1 creating database triggers

Hi Deb and  Blaine Bryant when you have the error message Sys Msg 9002 "Log File is Full" in Microsoft Dynamics SL, support recommend that  Truncate Log.

Resolution 13724 - Run Truncate Log and Shrink Database using Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio.

    1. Make a BACKUP of the database, which can be restored in case an undesired data loss occurs.

    2. Log on to Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio and connect to the appropriate database.

    3. Run the following statement to make sure that the log does not contain any transactions that have not yet been written to the database:

    DBCC OPENTRAN

Note - You should receive the message "No active open transactions. DBCC execution completed. If DBCC printed error messages, contact your system administrator".

    4. Expand the Databases folder.

    5. Right-click on the database in question and choose Properties.

    6. From the Properties screen, click on Options.

    7. Set the Recovery Model to "Simple" and click OK.

Note - This change is only temporary and can be changed back after shrinking the database.

    6. From the Database folder, select the appropriate Application database and right mouse click.

    7. Point to Tasks | Shrink | Files.

    8. Click on the File type drop-down and select Log.

    9. In the File name drop-down, make sure that the appropriate log file is selected (i.e. databasename_log).

    10. Click OK.

    Deb,

SL Support will never recommend you to shrink your actual DB's, so I would definitely test that if you choose to follow that advice.

Hi Deb Lashua i don't think that tte problema  was the UAC, i think thas is your SQL.

You was on SL 2011 sp1 and upgrate to SL 2011 Fp1.

    I suggest the next steps:

1.- Fisrt shrink the databases the application and system databases.

2.- Delete on the logins on SQL, the master 80 and the CD8359B5576446f85EB67E824B4770 user's

3.- On the System Database select the domain table and delete the file that on the description column say MASTER Login Password.(don't worry this file is created when you sincronize on the database mantencace)

4.- Logon into database mantenace with sa user, and start the process to upgrate pressing the button update databases.

    Deb,

Ensure that UAC is off before installing 2011 FP1:

    a. Click Start

    b. In search box type UAC

    c. Select “Change User Account Control Settings”

    d. Move the slide all the way to the bottom

    e. Restart

Ensure that you are installing SL on a regular File Server, for example SL will not work on a Domain Controller.

Elaine - Thank you. We let it run for nearly 12 hours and it never finished. We ended up reverting back to SL 2011 SP1.

I checked the log file and it contains the following:

    Database Name: SYSTEM

    Error Code: -3

Error Text: ExecuteNonQuery failed for Database 'SYSTEM'.

(Where SYSTEM represents our system database.)

    Thank you,

    Deb

    Hi Deb,

We don't have a  ready answer for this behavior having not run into such very often.  The best help would be to let it run until something is written to the log file.  Or, check the log now to see if you find anything written that might indicate an error.
