Custom currency field converting another field's value

(0) ShareShare

I have an opportunity record with an estimated value field. I wish to add another currency field which shows this same estimated value, but converted into another currency -- and not the system currency nor the user's currency.

estimatedvalue <- currency is GBP because of user settings

new_customestimed <- currency being USD, regardless of system default currency or user currency

Is there any way to set transactioncurrencyid for individual fields? What's the solution here?

Thanks

    Hi Erik,

as far as I know, only one currency is allowed in the currency fields. You define that when you create the organization.

if I were you I would introduce a decimal field in which you place your custom estimate

you can use some javascript that responds on the change event of the original estimate field to calculate the custom value and place it in the custom field

I hope this points you in the right direction

    Hi,

You can keep a customcurrencylookup field, based on the lookup value determine the customexchangerate and add a calculative field(new_customestimed  ).

hope it works or simply u can follow the BAS suggested way :)

    Thanks for the suggestion!

This was my plan initially, except using a currency field instead of a decimal field. I'm unsure how to get the exchange rate needed to convert the value, though.

    Hi Erik,

if you want to do currency conversion then you should keep track of the exchange rate valid at that moment. That can be achieved by either keep a list with exchange rate values  or by real time querying a exchange rate service on the web.

Do you want to see the conversion in realtime, or do you want to have it stored and being processed in the background?

I don't think the exchange rate requires any frequent updating.

I'm trying Maniraj's approach. I've created a custom currency lookup field, always holding USD (business rule saying lookup != USD, set to USD). I will try to get the base value of estimated value and convert it onto a custom decimal field.

    Hi Erik,

if you are not gonna change currency from USD, you just write a js script to get the exchange rate of the USD on load of the form and set it to the customexchangerate if customexchangerate  field is empty. then create calculatedfield for newcustomestimatedvalue.

    Hope it works
