BC 28.0 – Print button in report preview not working (Purchase Orders and all reports)

(7) ShareShare
ReportReport
Posted on by 15
We are experiencing a consistent issue in Business Central SaaS:

Environment:
- Version: 28.0 (Platform 28.0.49812.0, Application 28.0.46665.50105)
- Region: US
- Browsers: Edge, Chrome, Incognito – same behavior

Steps to reproduce:
1. Open Purchase Order
2. Click Print → Preview
3. Click Print icon in preview toolbar

Result:
Nothing happens (no browser print dialog)

Expected result:
Browser print dialog should open

Additional info:
- Preview renders correctly
- Download and manual print works
- Ctrl+P works
- Happens on all reports, not just PO

This appears to be a regression in BC 28 preview printing.
I have the same question (0)

This is a known bug. Unfortunately I dont actually know what the timeline is on a fix. Microsoft is aware. If I were you I would submit a ticket with Microsoft support or get your partner to submit a ticket on your behalf. The more people complaining the fasted I believe they will fix it.

I know a few people have had success trying different browsers or even making sure their windows version is up to date but all the fixes seem to be a bit random.

    Hello,
Yes, based on your repro details this looks like a client/platform regression in the BC 28 report preview toolbar, not a Purchase Order report issue and not a browser/user setup issue, especially because Preview renders, Download works, Ctrl+P works, and it happens across reports and browsers. In standard BC, Microsoft documents that the Print action from the report preview should trigger browser-handled printing when no specific printer is selected, so if the preview toolbar print icon does nothing, I’d log this with Microsoft Support as a SaaS platform issue and include exactly what you listed: version/build, region, browsers tested, “all reports,” and the workaround (Download PDF or Ctrl+P). Also check whether Printer = (Handled by the browser) is being used and whether pop-ups are allowed, but given Incognito/Edge/Chrome all behave the same, I would treat this as a product bug/regression rather than configuration.

The issue has not yet been resolved. Additionally, there are temporary issues with the PDF rendering of ForNAV/AZURE.
There is strong evidence of unstable Azure PDF rendering endpoints (font/rendering pipeline)

I have an open case with Microsoft on this, it's not a v28 issue, it's an edge/windows issue

Have you tested the job queue using "Run Once Foreground"?

Have any job queue log entries been created?

    Kind Regards

    Hi, good day
I hope this can help you, and give you some hints.

The solution will be in Integration Build 29.0.50587.0.

    Hi,
We have seen similar issue in BC 28 with the preview print icon not opening browser dialog. The preview render and download work fine, only the print icon in the toolbar is not responding.

From what we tested, this seems to be a regression in the report preview component in BC 28. Ctrl+P workaround as you mentioned is the simplest way around it for users. Also "Download → open PDF → print" works but is more steps.

Worth raise it as support ticket through your partner or directly via the Help & Support in BC Admin Center, Microsoft track these regressions and need user reports to prioritise fixes. Also check the BCApps GitHub repository, sometimes other partners already opened an issue for the same problem and you can follow or add to it.

In the meantime, you can train users to use Ctrl+P or download the PDF, until Microsoft release a hotfix in a future cumulative update.

    Hope this help,
