Wow, I wish there was. It happens randomly to several workstations each week. My solution was to distribute a short memo instructing cashiers how to correct the issue: Control F6 > Window... > set negative numbers to 0.

The other, similarly random issue is not being able to re-open POS after it's been suddenly quit. Short of restarting the computer, using Task Manager to end SOPOSUSER process.

We have not had that one in a long time! One thing that avoided me a lot of hassle was (oddly enough) disabling Windows updates.

The permanent fix is to not allow the POS screen to minimize. Ctrl + F6 | Window button | uncheck Show re-sizable border.

Another work around is to lock the registry settings for the screen needed so they cannot be changed. Essentially, its doing the same as above

Finally, one can export the Registry settings for the screen settings, save it to the desktop and whenever the screen is minimized, right click the exported setting and import it.  The logged in user will have to have Admin rights to make the change.

    Rick,

You can create a "task killer" for the task.

Right click on the Desktop | New | Text file | give it a name like POSKiller.bat | add the line

tskill POSUser.exe   in it and save it.

When you cannot open the POS, right click on the POSKiller.bat, run as Administrator and it kills it.

One should always close the POS screen before leaving for the day.  FWIW, one should also leave their cash drawer open, thieves will tear apart your POS area if its closed, making a bigger expensive mess.

The reason turning off WU worked was that when the POS is minimized, it writes the screen position -32000 in the Registry, basically go to a screen point that doesn't exist.

When Windows Update runs, it sometimes restarts the machine, but RMS has written that screen point in the Registry, so when you try to open POS after the restart, it opens to that screen point written in the Registry. See my other posts on how to fix.

Turn your WU back on and set it to download, but not install, but check it every week and do the installations.
