Component on custom solution

I have this client extensions type component in a custom solution. It has a description: XML data used to control the application navigation pane. There is also the same component in the default solution with similar attributes. Is there a way I can tell whether the extension in the custom solution is different from the one in default solution? I am cleaning up unused CRM unmanaged solutions and want to be sure before I delete.

Every solution must have a publisher which has separate initials with the component names?

    Hi John,

Are you talking about the Site Map? It needs to be in the default solution and you really don't want to delete it.

Hope this helps. I'd appreciate if you'd mark this as a Verified answer.

    Thanks,

Yes, i am talking about the site map. It is on the default solution, and also added in a custom solution as a component. I wanted to find out if i can delete the one on the custom solution or the custom solution itself.

    Hi John,

No, you don't want to delete either of them. The sitemap is a unique type of customization. There's really only one "Sitemap" for your organization. If a SiteMap is included in a solution it contains the changes to the XML that are needed by the solution, it's not a second SiteMap.

You could remove the entire custom solution if you want but only if you don't need or want it.

Hope this helps clarify. I'd appreciate if you would mark this as a Verified answer.

    Thanks,

     Aiden

    Hi John,

First thing whatever custom solution you have it just like a container, actually the components are in base solutions.

Now if you have installed any custom solution which is managed you can uninstall it (means delete it) all the customization & components will be removed from your environment. BUT if you are talking about un-managed solution then there is no easy way to remove them.

You can't delete SiteMap, because it's the same from default solution only.

let me know if my response is not clear to you.

    Thanks
