Internet Explorer Script Error in Dynamics GP v10

I have a client who's workstation suffered a power failure and upon trying to log back into Dynamics GP is getting the following message:

An error has occurred in the script on this page.

Line:  335

Char:  6

Error:  The data is invalid.

Code:  0

URL:  file://C:/Documents%20and%20Settings/<username>/Local%20Settings/Temp/tmp35.tmp

I have attempted the following to resolve the issue:

  1. Close all items on the desktop
  2. Delete all files from %temp%
  3. Verified full (read/write) permissions to the Local Settings/Temp folder
  4. Attempted to log back into Dynamics GP

The above didn't work so I tried some other items I found on some Dynamics GP blogster sites:

  1. Added http://Dexterity to Trusted Sites in  Internet Explorer
  2. Reinstalled Office Web Components on the machine
  3. Replaced the HomePage.xsl and AreaPage.xsl in the C:\Program Files\Microsoft Dynamics\GP\Background

None of the above has resolved the issue.  Now being a savvy support analyst, I've asked the IT person at the client site to rebuild the users profile and shy of uninstalling/reinstalling Dynamics GP I'm stuck on how to resolve this.

Outside of what I've already attempted to resolve this, does anyone have any suggestions on anything else to try to resolve this for the client?   This is only happening on a single workstation.

Thanks,

Sean Reynolds

Sometimes this happens! You tries all the workarounds with no luck, reinstalling Dynamics GP will not resolve the problem, your best hit is diabling scripts debugging in IE after resetting the IE and deleting temporary internet files and objects.

What is happening is that GP is trying to write home desktop menu settings (which groups are expanded/contracted) to the user's temp directory.  It appears that when that user is logged into the workstation/network, they do not have full read/write ability to the listed directory.  Make sure they and not you have full rw rights.  IE can they open a file in Word and save it to that direcory?  Remember, the actual directory changes when different people log on to the workstation

    Hi Sean,

There is typically a couple of possible resolutions for IE script errors:

    1. Install Office Web Components which you already have.

    2. Verify the UserData folder exists in the following location:

    %appdata%\Microsoft\Internet Explorer

If the folder does not exist (you may need to change the setting to view hidden files/folders) you will want to create a new folder with that exact name.

    3. Make sure that the Windows user has full control over the GP code folder, temp folder and any shared locations.

    4. Delete your temp files/cookies in IE.

Let me know if that doesn't work for you.

    Thanks,

    Jonathan Fear
