Need to modify in one custom script , but in dev we don't have updated one, can i get prod dic and modify that????

I am working on GP8.0, i need to make one modification on script of one custom dictionary (say one.dic), but if see the prod and dev they were not matching. so i need to get the prod (one.dic) and do change for that script and deploy????... 

we do not have updated seperate chunk files, can i bring the dic from prod and modify and deploy can be possible???

can anybody please assist , i am new to dextirity.

    Hi,

    Are you sure one that is available on the production is the latest code? Since, you have already said the production and the development environment were not matching. You need to make sure which one is the latest code. I understand that your production environment has got the extracted custom dictionary and it is encrypted. Since, you were able to see the source code from that extracted custom dictionary. It is possible to move that customization to a new dynamics.dic. It involves some process which you need to be aware of the Dexterity Utilities. Kindly go through the dexterity utilities help file.

    Note: Always use  the testing environment to deploy and test the code before moving to production.

    Hi Shan/Anybody,

    i had bring that perticular dictionary from prod, and i had checked in dexitirity UI, i did not fiund any scripts.

    i have to modify one script regarding the report.

    can anybody suggest on this urgent.

    Hi,

    If you cannot see the code, it means that dictionary originated from a compressed chunk.

    See this link:

    community.dynamics.com/.../170266

    If you want to modify a 3rd party dictionary, you will need at least one of these files:

    • The development dictionary.
    • Uncompressed chunk file.
    • Extracted dictionary.
    • The dictionary generated by the uncompressed chunk file.

    Hi,

    Since, you cannot see the source code it means that extracted dictionary is compressed and encrypted. As said by Jorge,  you need the above following to make changes. In your case, you could not do anything with the encrypted dictionary.

    The only option for you is to use the old development dictionary and include the missing functionality and continue from there.

    i could able to see them. but not able to see only scripts.

    In a compressed dictionary you should be able to see the new forms, fields, tables, etc. but not the code.

    If you don't have the files I listed, you won't be able to modify that dictionary. You could create a new 3rd party product and add your code there.
