Dynamics CRM Portals: Render lookup as drop-down in entity form.

I have used OOB Entity form metadata to control lookup field as "Render lookup as a drop-down" with randomizing option set values as "No", but the drop-down list showing null even the lookup field had records. Can we do it using coding in spite of OOB feature? Or is there any settings that I missed while using OOB feature.

Prior Thanks,

Revanth .K

    Hi Revanth,

I have done this many times and it should work. Possibly something in your configuration or Entity Permissions that is the reason that is not showing any records.

Regarding the possibility of doing this using code, you can, using oData to retrieve the data from CRM and using jquery or javascript to populate the fields in the control. This will be client side only...

    Hope this helps.

    Hi Ravanth,

    1. Are you able to see records in the lookup field in the portal? ( With out Render lookup as a drop-down).

    • if Yes, Can you create a new lookup field in CRM and "Render lookup as a drop-down" in the portal.
    • If No, Can you look into the entity permission. Set Global for now to test.

Let me please know if you have any queries

    Thanks

    Hi

I am having same problem. Not able to render as a drop down in portal. I set the permission to global also. Does it have anything to do with number of records ? I have 300 records in my lookup I want to show them as drop down in the portal form.

We have the same issue since a few days. Looks like a new product "feature".

I am having a similar issue.  The lookup is a custom entity and displays the values when the control is rendered as a lookup, but when "Render lookup as a drop down" is set no values are displayed (whether randomizing option is set or not).

The sample form has a Customer lookup that works as a drop down... mysterious!

Thanks Justin!  The link you provided helped a lot ... it looks like I needed to add the entity permission "Append/Append To" for the lookup entity.  Makes sense when you think about it.

What makes this hard to troubleshoot is the cache... without manually clearing it is tricky to know if your changes are in place.

So Revanth... if you can get this to work without the code would be the better solution.  Hope the link helps you too!
