Hello, good afternoon community.
My company has been using Dynamics 36 Business Central for some time, but we have a problem with the product code or number, we are missing one more character. Is there someone who is if there is a way to increase the number of characters in that field?

Agree with Steve and Teddy, try removing special characters like dashes, slashes, apostrophes, etc. These are good to not use anyway.

If you are on Cloud, you can't increase the Item No.

If you are On-Prem, it is also not recommended to increase the number for 20 to 21 characters. The Item No. is connected to a lot of table and logic, changing the base can cause you an issue a long the way and lost your ability to upgrade easily.

If there is no way to shorten your item code, you can make try making use of No. 2 field.

    Hello,

The Item No. field, which is set to 20 characters, I would highly recommend you leave alone, in fact never touch it given the extensive use of this field throughout BC features, functionality, and processing. Why do you need to increase more than 20 characters? If this is a requirement, may I recommend using No. 2 field which gives another 20 characters. Also, consider staying within the 20 characters and try to use Attributes and other standard fields to replace some of the old Item numbering logic. Lastly, creating a custom Old Item Number field can be done easily and used as a filter.

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks,

    Steve
