Looking for help with SBF v.9.

I have a Windows 7 computer and it will not install. It appears that Windows 7 is not compatible with SBF. Is there anything I can do to get it to work. It doesn't look like there is even a forum for SBF. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

SBF is not compatible with W7. Have you tried turning off UAC and being logged in as the local admin. When you say it will not install exactly what error message do you get and when do you get it? You may wind up having no choice but to find an XP computer to house SBF.

I gave it a try under XP Mode and was able to get the it to install but I am having trouble getting XP mode to find the server.

Are you using the 32 bit ODBC administrator?

I was able to get it to run under XP mode. I had to remove the firewall and tinker with the XP mode settings, but finally got it going. Unfortunately, I put the firewall back up an allowed permission for the new Win 7computer to go through the firewall -- then it all stopped working. I took the firewall back down to at least get it working again, however now I can't see the XP computer through Win 7 or XP mode...very frustrating. I know that this problem is not the scope of this forum and I appreciate all the help and suggestions.

I've been on the phone all day with Microsoft. They took control of both computers, changed just about everything and still can't get it to work. They said that they will have to call me back on Monday after researching it further.

Since you are engaging Microsoft directly it would be best for them to find the resolution. Please update this case when the cause is found so we can file it away for future reference.

    Recap / Update / Solution??

XP Mode was needed to run MS Small Business Financial on a Windows 7 client.

XP was able to see server files with firewall down.

Firewall was put back up and the client was given access through the firewall.

Windows 7 mode and XP mode could not see the server.

    Firewall was taken down.

Server files could not bee seen now even with firewall down.

MS was contacted and spent the entire day on the phone and researching the problem. They did feel that it was caused by the firewall (McAfee) even though it was disabled.

They were unable to come up with a solution by Friday afternoon and said they would call back on Monday morning.

I booted up my system first thing Monday morning and the Windows 7 computer was able to see the network and all the files in both Windows 7 and XP mode. MS Small Business Financials was running perfectly under XP mode. No changes were made to the system since Friday afternoon.

MS called, I explained the situation...they offered no explanation but said that if I should be unable to see the network again that I should email them and they will get back to me withing an hour.

I wish had something more valuable to offer in terms of a solution.

Is it possible that MacAfee needed a reboot even though it did not say so. So by turning it off and back on that was enough to reset it?
