Dynamics CRM 2011 Outlook client configuration failed

Hello everybody,

Last Sunday a colleague experienced a problem with his CRM client for Outlook and he decided to delete and the reapply the configuration via the configuration wizard. The configuration process failed with this error:

Exception : InternalOperationPlugin: Could not find method 'RetrievePrivilegeMaxDepthFromTeamRoles' on 'Microsoft.Crm.ObjectModel.PrivilegeService'.    in Microsoft.Crm.Application.Platform.ServiceCommands.PlatformCommand.XrmExecuteInternal()

The user is a System Administrator and he can access CRM via browser.

No other client is experiencing this issue, but I suppose it's not user related, because if I try configuring the same machine with another user profile, I get the same.

So I uninstalled every piece of CRM related software on that notebook and then I tried re-installing "from scratch".. no way, it always go in exception during the configuration process. I've also tried to configure another organization.. no way.

We've tried to configure on another PC and we've succeded.. but, of course, he needs the CRM client running on that notebook :-(

Some system info:

  • Outlook 2010 SP2 (build number 14.0.7113.5005) x86
  • Windows 7 Pro x64
  • Dynamics CRM 2011 for Office Outlook rollup 16 (build number 5.0.9690.3911)

Any idea?

Thanks in advance!

Bye

    Update:

I tried to restore .NET framework via control panel, no change at all.

    Hi Ezra and povversas,

There might be a number of reasons to experience issues while configuring Dynamics CRM for Outlook .

As first step, I would recommend you to review the related thread community.dynamics.com/.../259779.aspx and apply the suggested solutions. As I understand you have tried reinstalling the client from the scratch, I am providing you the recommended steps to do so. If you haven’t done all the steps, I suggest you to perform a new installation one more time following the below steps.

    1. Clear all the cache Browsing history data from IE. ( Launch IE >> Tools >> Internet option >> Browsing History >> Select all of the options beside the Preserver Favorites website data)

    2. Delete all the temporary files in IE. (Launch IE >> Tools >> Internet Options >> General >> Browsing History >> Settings >> View Files)

    3. Delete all the temp files on the client computer (Open the Windows Explorer >> Type %temp% >> Delete all the files )

    4. Remove the credentials from the credential vault in Credential Manager. (Windows Start >> Control Panel >> Credential Manager >> Generic Credential  >> Remove from Vault related to CRM)

    5. Uninstall all SQL Server Compact components from Add or Remove Programs.

    6. Delete these folders:

    •        C:\Program Files\Microsoft Dynamics CRM

Note: If it says any files are in use and does not let you delete the folder, click Start > Run, type services.msc and click OK. Stop any SQL services that are running, and then delete the folder.

    •        C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server Compact Edition

    •        C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\MSCRM

    •        Navigate to %userprofile\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\MSCRM\Client. Delete the EmailCache.sdf and OutlookSyncCache.sdf

    •         Navigate to %LocalAppData%\Microsoft\MSCRM\Client. Delete the {guid} .sdf files (there should be two sdf files here)

Click Start > Run, type regedit, and then click OK.

    7. Make a backup of the registry by clicking File > Export. Ensure that “All” is selected under Export Range, then enter a name and click Save.

    8. Delete all of these keys that still exist:

    • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011 for Microsoft Office Outlook

    • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\MSCRMClient

    • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\MSCRMIntegration

    • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\Outlook\Addins\crmaddin.RibbonAddin

    • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\MSCRM

    • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\MSCRMClient

    • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Office\Outlook\Addins\crmaddin.Addin

    9. Uninstall “Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011 for Microsoft Office Outlook” (and the language pack if you have) from Add or Remove Programs.

    10. Restart the computer.

    11. Download the CRM 2011 Outlook client, install and update to the latest rollup

Please let us know if this helps.

    Hi Nina,

Thank you for your answer. After a lot of effort on the client, we just solved this strange situation installing CRM 2011 on a brand new server and importing the organization on that deployment.

We took this difficult decision when a second user experienced the problem, during configuration of his new PC. Before this, we tried uninstalling CRM con the client and all of required components (SQL Server Compact, .NET framework, Visual C++ redistributable, etc.), cleaning registry keys and deleting all related files on the disk. Sadly, after re-installing, it was still impossible to configure the client. :-(

    Best regards
