Receive goods without generating work in WHS

Hello,

Environment: AX2012 R3 CU10 - WHS
Process: inbound - reception of goods in a WHS driven warehouse

One of my customers has a scenario in which they want to receive goods without generating work. The result should be that the goods are received (registered) on the default receipt location that is setup on the warehouse.

Is there any way we can achieve this? I already tried to make my work templates/location directives 'inactive' by setting up a query that does not match my data. But then the result is that we receive an error in the work creation history log (location directive not found, work template not found etc.).

We are using work creation process 'purchase order receiving' or 'load item receiving' (mobile device menu item).

Any suggestion/help would be more than welcome.

    Hi AngeloV

I assume you are always talking about performing the receipt process through the mobile device, right? Because of course that if you just want to receive the items at a specific location you can use the "Item arrival journal" but you will need to do this on AX client, not mobile device.

The only idea I have in mind is to use a "Receive and put away" mobile device menu item. You setup a work template with just two steps to pick from "Receive" location and put it on "Receive2" location. The first one is the one setup on your warehouse (and is a dummy one) and the second one is your "real" receipt location.

This includes and extra window to accept on your mobile device which will appear in the same indoor process and will be a virtual movement.

By the end of this work, you won't have pending work and your items will be at the location you define on your location directives.

    Tell me what you think.

    Hello,

Thank you for your feedback. Yes, we want to do it through the mobile. I also thought about the option that you suggest, but in our case, it will not work:

We have 2 types of products (quality and not quality driven). The quality driven products should stay at our receipt location (which is also the quality inspection location, physically). No work should be generated to do the putaway. We could for example generate work to put to 'quality' or the current receive location, but we dont want that, we want to avoid to have an extra scan. We could use your suggested solution and use the 'receive and put away work' menu item, but then we have a problem for the non quality driven products.

For the non quality driven products, we want to have a put away work (to final location). The registration and put-away are done by 2 different people in the WH, so in this case we need to use 2 seperate menus (receipt / put away).

We could create both menu items and use them in parallel, but since we don't know if a product is quality driven or not at moment of reception (depends on some WHS filter codes), we cannot know what menu item we have to choose.

Another option i tested is to generate put away work for quality driven goods and check the 'automatically process' parameter on the work template. Unfortunately, I don't think it works for inbound.

    Hi Angelo

I have never tested the "automatically process" parameter, but I think it should work (I don't see why it wouldn't be available for inbound).

Now that you explain your scenario, I think you could try something like this:

    po-rec-nq.JPG

    po-rec-nq.JPG

Each work template should have the query filtering by the corresponding filter code, so the warehouse workers don't need to clasify them at the reception process.

The templates will create 2 or 4 steps depending on the item type.

In case 4 steps are created, the "pending" work (there will be two pending work lines, actually) could be taken from a mobile device through a "use existing work" menu item (this will be performed by the second warehouse worker).

We offered this on a customer but they finnally didn't accept because there was an extra window to accept on the reception process (this is the disadvantage).

    Hi Nick,

I would have another question on the 4 step inbound. I am currently working on an European project where I need the 4 step inbound, but each time I receive an item I get

Physical on-hand Site=XXX,Warehouse=YYY,Location=13-09-02-1,Inventory status=Available,License plate=00240009840000000171 2000025929: 800,00 cannot be reserved because only 0,00 are available in the inventory.

    What could I potentially miss?

Hi Joe, when exactly are you receiving that message? Does it appear on your Mobile Device when you perform the receipt process? Or does it appear when you are executing the work previously created?

    Hi Nick,

Kindly tell us what is the scenario. Are you trying to receive a purchase order in warehouse for which you have four steps work created?

Where and at what stage you are getting this error? Also which mobile device menu item you are using to process this work.

This is happening in the receiving process and the error is displayed on the mobile device.

I have a work template with 4 steps The first put as a directive code that points to a location directive having the same directive code.

The second put step doesn't have a directive code as it is not allowed. but there is a location directive to find the final location.

When I look at the work creation history I can see that my location directive is addressed correctly by the temp work transaction and assigns for each put the correct location.

However, it seems that when AX tries then to create the work it fails with the reservation attempt that is required for the work.

    Hi Joe,

I can only think of another process or transaction (external to WHS) that is making the work creation process fail. I have the following two ideas in mind:

    1) Are you using Quality Asociations? If a sample is created at the receiving process by the total quantity being received, I think it could affect work creation.

    2) Is it possible that the item is "Ordered reserved"? So when it is received it turns to "Physically reserved" by the related order and the work creation fails.

Looking into the "Transactions inquiry" would be the best way to find out which transaction could be "in the middle".

Thanks for your quick reply. Quality association was my first thought as well, but there isn't any. The PO I created is grad new so there is no reserved ordered either.

I'm running out of ideas, Joe.

But if I were you, I would receive the order through another process (such as "Register" window in the PO or the Packing Slip or the Item Receipt Journal). Those transactions won't create work and will let you see what is going on with the items and if they are reserved by another transaction.
