Hi,
I want the external user to be able to view only his record inside the crm. for example the external user is one of the leads , I want him to see only his details as leads and his opportunity in the portal

You can achieve this by creating Entity Permission on Lead and Opportunity, and also you on the Entity List view of Opportunity and Lead you need to set the filter like below,

Hi Jane,
It can be quite easily achievable with entity permission configuration and entity list configurations to include entity permissions. OOB on the Portal Cases and connected entities working such ways.
