Dynamics GP with Management Reporter 2012 CU8: [GL Transaction to Fact] has encountered an error while reading records.

Posted on by 530

A client recently updated MR to CU8. They had issues with the data and recreated the data mart. The data mart is not working correctly. It continually adds errors. Running a trace shows three events repeating constantly, the third of which is writing this error:

[GL Transaction to Fact] has encountered an error while reading records. Error text: A record level exception has occurred for record (N/A). Error text : Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

Has anyone seen this or know what to do to get around it?

    Hi Mitch,

Can you tell the steps involved about migration of MR to a new Database?

Any Article related to this? This will help for our future reference.

As an aside to my original problem it was not fixed directly. We just 'migrated' everything from Management Reporter to a new database and were able to recreate the data mart after that. Thank you for the responses, however.

Please ignore my earlier post - My folder setting were hiding the Program Data folder.  Once I changed the settings to show hidden folders - there it was.

We should mention that you have to stop the Process Service to open the log.

Here is what I get - any ideas?

Thank you for your quick reply.  I do not have that location - no Program Data folder etc. on my SQL server. Do I need to create this path for the log?

    Thank you,

    Carla

    Hi Mitch,

Please refer the below mentioned location once the config file is changed.

    C:\ProgramData\Microsoft Dynamics\Connector for Microsoft Dynamics\Logs

if you dint find any details in the log file please change the value to 1 to trace the log.

After changing the MRServiceHost.exe.config file to enable logging, where do I find the resulting log?  Thank you.

    Hi Mitch,

Please change the config file to trace the root cause.

    To enable logging:

    1. Navigate to C:\Program Files\Microsoft Dynamics ERP\Management Reporter\(your version)\Server\Services\

    2. Open the MRServiceHost.exe.config in notepad.

    3. Search for <add name="Microsoft.Dynamics.Integration.TraceLog" value="0"/>

    4. Change the 0 to a 4, so it looks like this: <add name="Microsoft.Dynamics.Integration.TraceLog" value="4"/>

    5. Restart the MR Process Service.

The log file will capture the error and it may provide root cause information that may help to fix the issue.

most probably the issue will be: (some transactions in the G/L for non-existent  fiscal years) so need to create the fiscal years and the datamart setup to be completed again.

Running into the exact same thing. Tried running Checklinks and rebuilding the DataMart but no luck. Does anyone have any further suggestions?

We had the same problem and it was due to missing/bad data in GP. We ran Checklinks on everything and found missing tax schedule summary information. We rebuilt the DataMart afterwards and it finally worked.
