Error Adjusted amount is incorrectly updated when register line sales return

The "Adjusted amount is incorrectly updated" error in Dynamics 365, especially during sales return processing, usually indicates an issue with the disposition code setup or the inventory valuation related to the returned item.

    1. Check Disposition Code Configuration

    • Go to Inventory management > Setup > Disposition codes.
    • Open the disposition code you are using and ensure that it’s correctly configured, especially with regard to the Return action (e.g., Scrap, Credit only, Return to inventory, etc.).
    • Ensure the code aligns with what you want to happen with the inventory (whether it’s being returned to stock, scrapped, or credited).
    • If you are using a custom disposition code, try using a standard one (like "Credit only") to see if the issue persists.

    2. Check Inventory Valuation Settings

    • The error might be related to the inventory model or valuation method. Go to Inventory management > Setup > Inventory and warehouse management parameters.
    • Check the valuation method and any rounding or adjustment settings. Certain valuation methods, like Weighted Average or FIFO, can cause adjustments to behave differently.
    • Make sure that the inventory settings for the returned item are compatible with the expected return adjustments.

    3. Verify Item Model Group and Inventory Dimensions

    • Go to Product information management > Products > Released products.
    • Open the item and check the Item model group and Inventory dimensions.
    • Ensure that the item model group allows for inventory adjustments on returns. For instance, if the item model group is set to a Non-stocked model, you might encounter issues with adjustments.
    • Make sure that relevant dimensions (such as Site and Warehouse) are properly defined.

    4. Update Financial Parameters on the Return Order

    • Go to the Sales return order form and check if the financial dimensions and parameters are correctly filled out for the return.
    • Incorrect financial dimension or posting configurations can sometimes lead to calculation issues on adjustments.

    5. Apply the Latest Service Packs and Hotfixes

    • Check if there are any recent updates or hotfixes from Microsoft for Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations that address issues with return orders. Microsoft often releases updates that fix calculation and posting errors.
    • Ensure your environment is fully up-to-date, as certain cumulative updates address bugs related to returns and inventory adjustments.

    6. Clear Cache or Restart Batch Jobs

    • Sometimes, data caching can cause unexpected issues in Dynamics 365.
    • Try clearing the cache or restarting any relevant batch jobs that handle return order processing and adjustments.

    7. Run a Trace

    • If the error persists, run a trace in Lifecycle Services (LCS) or Trace Parser to capture more detailed information on what’s causing the error.
    • This can provide insight into specific areas of code or configurations that might need adjustment.

    8. Check for Customizations

    • If you have customizations related to sales returns or adjustments, there could be an issue in the custom code.
    • If possible, try replicating the process in a standard environment without customizations to see if the error occurs there. This can help isolate whether it’s a base system issue or related to custom code.

    9. Try a Different Disposition Code or Return Process

    • Sometimes, the specific combination of disposition codes and return processing steps can cause errors.
    • Try using a different disposition code or a different process (e.g., credit-only return or scrap instead of return-to-inventory) to see if this bypasses the issue.

It may be helpful to check for recent hotfixes or updates from Microsoft, as they occasionally release fixes for specific issues in return order processing.

    Hi,

Did you try and debug to see what is causing the error?

Also if you leave disposition code as empty, do u get the same error?
