Resetting GP account locks out SQL Account

Posted on by 50
Our setup is GP10 with SQL2005 backend, and we have Password Policy Enabled. If I create a new account in Great Plains I am able to for the user to change the password. When they log in they can change their password without an issue.  The problem I have is when already existing users log into GP and try to change their passwords. Once the user changes the password and logs out of GP it instantly locks their user account on the SQL server. The only way I can unlock them is to remove Enforce Password Policy then re-add it to remove their locked status.  Has anyone found a fix for this?

We tried with 3 and it's still locking up.

There was also a link to a ticket in your blog but I was unble to get to it.

I will try to get an MBS login so I can view it.

With v10.00 SP2 you should be able to set the system to 3 attempts.

    Is there still an issue?

I was able to check our server, and we are running SP2 for Great Plains 10.

I ran a test with our group policy and set it to 5 invalid attempts and the password changes on Great Plains work like a charm. Only issue is we have to have to set to 3 invalid attempts, which from what i understood SP2 was suppose to resolve. So accounts will still lock out.

Would you have any other ideas before I give MS a call?

    Hi Arthur

I would have a look at my blog posting as this describes how the password system and encryption works.

    http://blogs.msdn.com/developingfordynamicsgp/archive/2008/10/02/why-does-microsoft-dynamics-gp-encrypt-passwords.aspx

If you are running a version of GP 10.0 earlier than SP2, you will need to ensure that you increase the number of password attempts by a multiple of 4.  See the posting for an explanation and link to the relevant KB.
