Platform and application updates for D365 for finance and operations

Hi -

Is it mandatory for a D365FO client to apply latest updates (both platform and applications releases) as they become available after they went live. I understand the platform updates are like binary updates and have no impact (or minimal impact). But applications releases may still require code conflict resolution and testing. Can a customer decide to opt out and don't take these commutative updates?

    Hi,

Currently you have the possibility to postpone the installation of updates. This might, however change. Why is it that you want to postpone? Don't you want to run the latest and best version that includes all fixes and features?

Please also have a look at the following website where you can find a lot of additional information on that

    daxmusings.codecrib.com

    Best regards

    Ludwig

    Hi Fahad,

Tho whole idea of D365FO is based around the vision to have all customers on latest updates. Yes you may need to resolve code conflicts but if the customization are done by following recommendations from MS and extensions then it should not take long time. Of course if you wait for long then the code upgrade will be a big exercise as your application will be quite old.

The answer to your question is, at the moment, a customer can opt out and do not install these updates but that is not recommended. If you stay on old version for a long time your application may not be supported. Check on the below link for the policy :

    Hope that helps.

Thanks and Ludwich and Rachit. I actually wanted to confirm my understanding here and your responses helped me to finalize our general approach. I agree we shouldn't opt out and having done customization in the right way would reduce the time and impact of of upgrade to the latest release. My question was around some exceptional scenarios where if a customer can't afford to do that at that point due to any major work or milestone currently in progress and they want to opt out and revisit it later.
