SmartList - display credits as negative numbers

I attended Convergence 2015 and heard in one of the presentations that we can now display credits, such as a credit memo in an invoice listing, as a negative number instead of a positive number in GP 2015. If true, how do we make this change?

    Hi,

Without SmartList Builder, you'll need to create a formula in the new SmartList Designer in order for it to be displayed as a negative amount. For instance, in the SOP tables, you'd need to evaluate the document type in order to calculate the correct sign of the amount.

    Kind regards,

    Leslie

Another way is to create your SQL view and manipulate the negative numbers accordingly, there are multiple ways on how to flip the sign of the original number such as using a CASE statement. Then, you can simply create a SmartList from either the Smartlist builder or designer considering the view mentioned above.

    Your feedback is highly appreciated,

I am trying to create the calculation in SmartList Designer using a CASE statement, so I can get the "Returns" in SOP to show as negatives.   But I'm doing something wrong and can't get it to work.  Where can I find more detailed instructions on how to create the statements within SmartList Designer?

    Hi,

I'm following up on this topic with an interest to show my Returns and Credit notes as negative.  I am using GP 2015 and cannot find a place where Smartlist designer allows to change the sign to negative.  Please help.

    Thank you

Hi Dexter,  I believe this can be accomplished by creating a calculation within SmartList Designer, as I've read references to this; but I can't seem to find the exact syntax.  Hopefully someone will respond.   If you figure it out, I hope you will post it here and I'll do the same.

Hi Leslie,  I have tried to create a formula in SmartList Designer to show SOP returns as negatives, but my syntax must be incorrect.  I've searched and searched, but can't seem to find the correct syntax to do this.  Are you able to give any suggestions?

Hi Leslie,  Any suggestion on how this can be done in Smartlist designer?  Maybe with expressions in a calculated field?

    Hi Dexter,

Yes, you'll need to use a calculated field. Use the little fx button. I normally use a case statement. For words that aren't available to insert, use the text constant and type in the words. For example, I didn't have the word 'then' to insert, so I typed it in as a text constant. For the SOP document type I used this expression:

    case {Sales Transaction History.SOP Type} when 3 then  {Sales Transaction History.Subtotal} when 4 then -  {Sales Transaction History.Subtotal} END

If you want, you can type the whole expression in the constant field, but you can only do 80 characters at a time.

    Kind regards,

    Leslie

    Leslie,

Thank you for the insight.  The case statement was accepted, however when I create the calculated field and I execute the report, everything else goes blank as if there is no data.

    Regards,

    Dexter
