Email Alerts for inventory

If I'm in the inventory and warehouse module and I want the system to send email alerts to the user when certain items in the on-hand inventory go below a certain number (i.e. say we only have 15 LCD monitors left, the system should notify whoever I choose that we are running out of monitors), which form should I go to and how do I configure the alerts for this purpose? As far as I can tell there are only a few types of alerts, given  here

any pointers?

    Hi,

The inventory is stored in the table InventSum per inventory dimension combination. Alerts on this is very hard to achieve. E.g. a product can have stock on two locations. Both are below the minimum of that warehouse, but in total there is enough inventory.

I think you can better fill the minimum on hand per product and then use the report 'Critical on-hand inventory' to have this as an alert list. The report can be found in the inventory and warehouse menu. It is possible to run this report in batch and mail the output to users.

Thanks for the answer Andre. Is there a way to do it through x++ code, i.e. run some check and create an email alert in code via some framework/built in classes? I could just run that method upon form opening or opening of ax or whatever.

You could do a simple setup of master planning. Every time the item goes below minimum the system would generate a planned order, and then you could put your alert on the planned order table. (Or you could just give the users a Cue to view the planned orders).

Using masterplanning would be possible. If this process will be used for normal purpose, you could consider creating a new periodic job. This would require a new class. Then you can call some logic and send emails. It is kind of similar to the Missing timesheet report in projects. There is also a periodic job that sends emails using almost the same logic as used in the report.
