MR - This report view contains no data (Post CU12 Update)

Posted on by 750

We recently had our consulting group update MR with CU12.  Since that upgrade, I am receiving an error when trying to run a report: "This report view contains no data".

Our consulting group will be troubleshooting the issue later this week, but wondering if someone else has experienced this?  I can pull all reports via viewer before 6/23.  As of yesterday, every single report is doing this.  I am thinking something took place during the upgrade.

RE: MR - This report view contains no data (Post CU12 Update)

    Hi Nicole,

I don't know if you ever solved your problem with the MR empty data reports.. but I ran into an issue today where I had almost identical Income statements produce completely different output. Each report definition had its own row & column definition (no tree used). The 1st report returns several pages of data against the GL in one company. The other report returns the infamous "This report view contains no data" message.. Looking more closely at the row definition first, I found that aside of a few sub-totals here and there, they looked almost identical, so it couldn't be there. Next came the column definition and here again, they looked pretty much identical, the only noticeable difference being the column width where the 2nd one was set to 'AutoFit' for most columns (4 out of 6), whereas the 1st report (the working one) had fixed sizes for 5 out of 6.

As I had looked everywhere for other differences and couldn't find any, I was almost giving up after >2 hrs of testing, when I tried to switch the row & columns defs in the second report for the ones from the 1st report.. and low & behold after switching the column def I finally got 46 pages of data on my report.. Now you may ask why ? I have no logical answer to this.. but for sure MR needs some tools to 'check-links' validity of the definitions..

Below are the 2 column definitions to compare (the 1st one not working) :

Current Year Prior Year $ Variance % Variance
ACCT DESC FD FD CALC CALC
    ACTUAL ACTUAL
    BASE BASE-1
    1:BASE 1:BASE
    PERIODIC PERIODIC
    C-D C/D
55 30 AutoFit AutoFit AutoFit AutoFit
    0.00%;(###0.00%)

Current Year Prior Year $ Variance % Variance
ACCT DESC FD FD CALC CALC
    ACTUAL Actual
    BASE BASE-1
    1:BASE 1:BASE
    PERIODIC PERIODIC
    C-D C/D
    AutoFit 30 14 14 14 14
    ###0.00%;(###0.00%)

As you can see, aside of the width settings and the format/currency override, there is not much differences..

But after I copied the current working settings from column defs 2 over the non-working ones, my report started to generate properly output..

It is to be noticed that the company doesn't use the Data Mart, but still works with the Legacy connector and is with the latest CU15.

I would give my vote to either incorrect date range or other default parameters changed on the report definition level.

Rebuilding the data mart is the thing that I would check initially as Harry indicates above.

Hmm.. They did rebuild the data mart yesterday after the upgrade. I wonder if that is where the problem is.  Thank you. I will see what they come back with tomorrow.

    Napolo,

While causes for this type of problem vary (i.e. Management Reporter Service Failing, and not being set to recover), the fix for most causes is the same. Rebuild the data mart. Here is a good blog article on walking through this process.

I have added this situation to my list of the 10 things I hate about Dynamics GP...
