Attaching Documents to Transactions

Does the functionality exist to attach documents to transactions?  I thought there was, but I only see the ability to add text notes.  I tried to paste screen prints, but it won't allow me to do that either.  I am a power user, so security settings should not be an issue.

For example, I would like to attach a copy of a vendor's W-9 to their vendor card or a copy of support for a g/l transaction.

This may be your OLE path issue.  Yes, I know you are using Document attach but I had this issue as well.  Make sure the OLE Path is a valid local path.  I believe UNC path caused my issue.

    Hello CG-Fisk,

What version of GP are you utilizing?  That will make a difference on how you proceed as Mahmoud explained above.

    Warm Regards,

    Deseree

My ability to use the attachment function in the JE window just recently went away as well. My setup is exactly like the snapshot you have listed above. We have the paperclip on the PO window but not on the JE Window.  The note pad is there which allows us to type in a note but again, the attachment functionality is gone.  Do you have any other suggestions?

I tried to get the attachment back to working. I have never removed this function. Do you have any idea how it was lost?  My setup is exactly how you show it in the snapshot above. We still have the attachment function in the PO window but not in the journal entry window. It just disappeared.  Do you have any other suggestions on how to get the function back in the JE window?

    Harry,

Allow me to intrude in here, the tutorial you posted is related to GP 2013 SP Document Attachment new features, which was improperly proposed initially. I was alerted later on that johnson has Dynamics GP 2010, which is why I proposed the OLE notes as an alternative.

Here is a really good tutorial on how to use, and configure the feature Mahmoud described in his answer above.

You are on the right track, then we are clear now.

Check MS Support article for this specific issue  The paperclip is not available when you try to attach an OLE note to a window in Microsoft Dynamics GP

Let me know how it goes,

Thank You.  That is very helpful.

My problem was that the paper clip is not there.  Now I know that the functionality is there (I thought it was) and that I just have an issue with the path.

At least I'm on the right path now (no pun intended).

Okay, let me make myself quite clear

I meant, the "Document Attachment Feature" which is quite easy and straight forward was introduced in Dynamics GP 2013. Prior to that, we used to consider the OLE functionality to attach documents.

You may consider the following article which explains how to attach a pdf through OLE, Attaching a .pdf File to a Payables Transaction

OLE is different that the recent Document Functionality introduced in 2013. In this essence, I would give a simple advice to upgrade and make use of the variety of new features.

Let me know if you have any further concerns,

To confirm, are you stating that there is no functionality to do so in 2010 (SP2)?

Didn't this functionality exist in prior versions?  I was a heavier user several years ago and I thought it existed then.
