Test SOPs/scripts for GP upgrade

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Hi All,

My company is in the process of simultaneously upgrading from GP2010 to GP2015, and also changing our hosting partner.

I'm having issues finding test procedures we can run and document after the change.

Is there a resource available for test scripts that will satisfy a typical SOx audit?

The guide from Microsoft simply says to run some reports - but we are looking for much more in-depth test SOPs to use.

Any advice?

Tim is correct - macros are situation specific, and would need to be created on a case-by-case basis.

I think you'll end up creating them yourselves, following your business processes as close as you can.

There are so many add on modules and options to change GP behaviour that a generic macro would either be too shallow to thoroughly test or appropriately deep that then depends on your data and configuration of GP.

Although this tests functionality, you seemed to be also asking about a way to identify if the data was intact, I'm not experienced in SOx requirements so can't advise on that. The various trial balances etc that the GP support knowledge base ask you to run are intended to do this, but I've no idea if that is adequate.

    Tim.

Harry Lee . Where can I get there macros? It would be great not having to create these macros manually..

When we perform testing, we identify test cases which validate key features of the software, then create macros to push these test cases through the system. Imagine a macro that enters orders, cancels lines, cancels orders, split ships orders, changes quantities, creates back orders, transfers to invoice, etc. Having macros that perform these tasks allows for more extensive testing, with less user interface.
