TCS Tools - update related parent record

Hi Community,

I would like to use the TCS tools to:

  • Using FetchXml to query and update related parent record (or to run a workflow on that record)

Use case is as follows:

I have a Lead entity and a Country entity where country exists as a lookup field on the lead entity

I also have a Email Tool which capture countries for leads. These country values however differ sometimes from CRM. Exmaple, in CRM country is called Mainland China, in our email tool it is called China.

The integrator sends the China text value to CRM which i would need to translate to the Mainland China lookup value.

I found instructions online, however they are from 2017 and the screenshots do not match the current CRM.

https://www.itaintboring.com/dynamics-crm/dynamics-crm-use-a-workflow-to-set-a-lookup/

Does anyone have experience with this? Can someone help me?

Thanks, Debbie

    Hi,

all those sceenshots are for the classic interface, so that's, probably, why they are not matching now.

Before I continue... why don't you use Power Automate for this? You would not need a third-party tool then:) Unless it's an on-premise environment, or unless you need it to be real-time.

Still, if there is a good reason to use TCS Tools... I am not sure how were you planning to lookup the country (what would be the fetch query?) And, in general, what seems to be not working? Here is a screenshot from the current UI just in case:

    Hi Alex,

The existing instructions are from 2017 hence the old screenshots. That make sense.

If i would know how to use powerautomate for this, i would use it, but i don't. Therefore, i have been looking for a tool.

This tool seems to offer the solution i am looking for, but i need instructions how to use it.

You ask me what would be the fetch query... well that is part of the question.

I am looking for instructions on how to populate each of these fields.

It is explained for the form from 2017 but this the current form is different.

I sent an email to the owner of the tool, but he has not replied yet.

    Thanks,

RE: TCS Tools - update related parent record

    Hi Debbie,

this might be closer to what you are looking for: www.itaintboring.com/.../

"Entity Attribute" has been renamed to "target attribute"

Update direction should be set to "Entity"

FetchXml - that I'm not sure I can help with. Basically, you need to figure out how to build that fetch, since this is what you'll be using to lookup the country (as I understand it, you have a text column in the lead entity for that, so you'll need to decide how to define the conditions... you can do it in the advanced find first... Let's say you've figured out the condition for "China"... just replace that hardcoded keyword with the [tag:lead]_attribute_name# when configuring TCS Lookup)

That said, I'd still suggest using Power Automate if you don't need real-time behavior (and unless you are working in the on-premise environment). TCS Tools were created when Power Automate was not quite around yet, but, right now, Power Automate should be the way to go.
