    Hi,

Reverse Engineering tool helps us to create UML data and object models in Microsoft Office Visio and also to generate .erx(Entity Relationship Data Model) file that can be imported into  Microsoft Office Visio or CA ERwin Data Modeler.

    Refer following link:

    (Reverse Engineering Tool [AX 2012])

    Hi,

As far I know, while designing any database intially we develop Physical Data Model(PDM) and Logical Data Model(LDM) that can depicted in ER model diagram which provides the Entity-relationship details like attributes, constraints, kind of relationships and so on. In this case, we are trying to retrieve the PDM by using this tool and so it referred as Reverse engineering tool.

    Thanks Chaitanya

Can you please give me an example with database with one table. Means how to work with PDM and LDM?

Please give me more shed on this.

    Thanks!

    Hi,

Let me explain you with an example. A relational database will have atleast more than one table. For our example purpose let us assume we are designing tables salesTable and salesLine. In LDM, we furnish details such as primary key, constraints on the fields such as Not Null, mandatory, cardinality of relationships between tables like 1:n, field names and so on in the form of ER diagrams. PDM will have the actual details of the tables in database. Hope this information helps you.

I want to develop PDM and LDM based on above example. Please let me know where I am developing PDM and LDM?

Please give me more shed on this.

    Thanks!

    Hi,

You can use data modeling tool, such as Microsoft Office Visio (or) CA ERwin Data Modeler to design ER diagrams. We used ERwin tool and it was good.

    Thanks Chaitanya

Once it's done (PDM and LDM) then last step will be Reverse engineering tool right?

Please give me more shed on this.

    Thanks!

    Hi,

No. If you have PDM with the required tables then there is no need for Reverse Engineering tool.Reverse Engineering tool helps us to get/visualize the PDM.

    Thanks Chaitanya,

Then how can I make PDM without using Reverse engineering tool?

If yes, then what is the use of Reverse engineering tool?

Please give me more shed on this.

    Thanks!
