Integrating Dynamics CRM with Dynamics GP and Product Catalog

I'm working on a project where an established Dynamics CRM will be linked to a new GP System using the Dynamics Connector. I understand that the connector will push products from GP to CRM and make all current products in CRM read-only. My query is what is the recommended why to handle open orders in CRM that reference the CRM products that will be made read-only when the integration is enabled? Does anyone have any tips on this?
