Migrating reports from Management Reporter Legacy to Management Reporter Data Mart

We have a customer that is doing an upgrade from MR Legacy to MR Data Mart.  MR has been installed and we exported the reports from Legacy and imported them into Data Mart.  They have numerous tree formats that have now broken because of the company name xxx-curr vs xxx change and the trees are not picking up the right names.

Is there a way to do a migration of reports from Legacy to Data Mart that will correctly convert the trees so they do not have to be rebuilt?  Is there a way to migrate that will also update security?  They have numerous users and with our current approach security would have to be manually updated too.  This is a large company with many reports and many trees.  Updating manually would be a project in itself.

Does anyone have any recommendations?

We do several upgrades month and constantly convert from various versions of MR to the latest CU which is presently CU15.  The problems you could possibly encounter and steps required are to numerous and cannot be effectively assisted in such a general manner.  Not only is the version of MR that you want to update to pertinent but also the version of GP.

With that said, You need to follow the directions on  MR System Requirements.

If your AD and SQL Security for the Install Account, MR Service Account or SQL account are incorrect, then the migration will fail.  Many problems stem on incorrect security as the documentation is there but not 100% as clear as it could be.  We have not had to Export and Reimport as you describe.

You also need to have ISO codes within GP assigned even if you are not using multicurrency.

Even with the correct security assignments and proper ISO codes, you will still have potentially many problems.

Occasionally, we have had to migrate from MR legacy to CU9 and then from CU9 to CU15.

If you do have a problem (and I assume your are certified), then you should contact Microsoft Support directly.

Hope that helps to get you started.

So are you saying that if the directions are followed on the MR System Requirements, security will be migrated, and the companies will be converted without having to re-do the trees?  Our customer is going to MR CU15 and to GP2015.

You may want take a look at the following article community.dynamics.com/.../143526, specifically Jake Friedl's scripts about 1/2 down the page regarding the trees.

In the Tree, You will need to change the company id in the first column.  It may say  XXXXX-curr.  If it does you will change it to your company ID without the -CURR.

On the Report Definition, you may need to also change the Company ID from XXXX-Curr to XXXX.

You have the choice of setting up -Curr adapter (legacy adapter) along with the DataMart Adapter.  But its not required.

Before exporting the reports, change company name in tree and report definitions  and import into data mart to check.

    Hope this helps!!!

    Hi Rochelle,

what was the previous version of MR when running with GP2010SP4 ?

As a second thought, why would you move to DataMart from Legacy... ? in my experiences, DM has brought more troubles then relief since it was introduced. How many companies in GP are we talking about here ?
