Does Mail Merge require CRM for Outlook to be installed?

Hi.
CRM 2013 - On-Premise

Can anyone categorically confirm that the CRM for Outlook client needs to be installed before the Mail Merge functionality can be used within the Web Client? Despite a lot of research i am still unsure. To add to this I seem to be able to use the Mail Merge functionality when accessing CRM from the server - this is with Microsoft Office installed [but not the CRM for Outlook client].

Thanks, David

Mail merge does not need outlook client to work , However

The CRM for Outlook client provides additional functionality that is not available with the CRM web client mail merge functionality alone.

you can find more information on the same here

Chitra is technically correct, but Microsoft only officially supports mail merge with the Outlook CRM Plugin and Microsoft Office installed on a computer.  There is no interface to do it through the web only, and it only partially works with Office installed, but not the CRM Plugin.

Definitely assume that if you want to use it reliably that you want the Outlook Plugin.

Chitrarasan, Wayne - thanks for your responses.

What's odd in this particular scenario is that although CRM for Outlook is not installed, Office is. I would have thought that the Mail Merge functionality would still function, however, once the Word document opens and you navigate to the Add-ins tab the CRM icon is missing [there are other icons listed].

    According to this article;

    www.trideapartners.com/.../crm-icon-not-available-in-add-on-tab-during-mail-merge

there are two word document templates that are required for the CRM icon to be available, neither of these are installed on this machine. From what i understand these get installed when CRM for Outlook gets installed/configured.

If anyone can assist further it would be appreciated.

    Thanks, David

    Hi David,

No. You don't need to install CRM for Outlook add in, it is not mandatory.

You can refer to this link:

For the template, you can download using this URL:

    Hope this helps!

    Thanks.
