When using Field Properties to update a field, after I click on the ExtendedDataType property, it takes about 10 minutes before the the drop arrow is visible and I can select an EDT.
Has anybody else experienced this delay? Any suggestions on how we can address this?

Have you checked your hardware for possible bottlenecks? E.g. how many memory are you using on the client and AOS? Is there any latency on the network?
The lookup is slow, it contains thousands of data types. You can usually type the EDT name manually instead of using the lookup. Or even faster, just drag&drop the EDT from another AOT window to your table's Fields node.
Generally the dev work in AX2012 requires quite powerful system - pay special attention to the disk speed of the database, since the whole source code (including EDTs) is stored there (in the model database). You should consider using fast SSD disks for the database.
That part was always slow.
In general, I proceed with a drag&drop too. Even when I need to learn the EDT of the field, I make sure to look at the field without clicking.
But despite everything, 10 minutes is not normal.
