Sales History

Hi!

I have a scenario like currently there are multiple companies exist in GP. I would like to bring all companies in to one database. When I bring all companies in to one database, I will be losing Sales History and in fact all the history. I am thinking of bringing only Sales History. What is the best way to migrate this data. Will there be any issue when you inquire or running utilities?

Advance thanks for your replies.

Mohan

    RE: Sales History

Each version of PSTL tools it is related to GP version. Company copy is only available later the version of GP 10. So, you can't use PSTL to copy or merge the company DB in GP 10.

    Hope this helps!!!

Thanks Soma. The document that I am referring for GP 10 doesn't cover company copy or merger etc. under Miscellaneous Tools. Looks like it is either separated from PSTL or discontinued in this version.

Have a look on "Company Copy" under "Using Miscellaneous Tools" chapter in the PDF ProfServicesToolsLibrary.pdf.

    Hope this helps!!!

    Mohan,

To read more about the tools PSTL, you can go to the documentation folder on your Microsoft Dynamics GP installation path, and read the ProfServicesToolsLibrary.pdf that is available.

    Hope this helps!!!

    Dear All,

Thanks for sharing your experience and thoughts on my post. It really helps to take a right step.

I have a question relating to the same. I was reading PSTL tools documentation and realise that Microsoft has a tool for Company Combiner and Company Splitter. Any of you had a chance to work/explore on this? I don't find any details on partner source or blogs about this tool. If you have please share.

    Thanks once again.

    Regards,

A lot depends on what kind of detail you need from the sales history and how often. Another possible option may be to leave the historical data where it is and create some custom SmartLists and/or reports that combine the data simply for reporting/inquiry purposes.

I have successfully merged multiple companies into one on two occasions.  If you do not really understand the database linkages (account indexes, note indexes, manufacturing note indexes, et cetera) you will create problems.  It took me 120 hours to write and test the initial scripts.  You must look at each table in the db and determine which ones have data.  Then, when combining customer lists, for example, you must check for duplications.  You must also check for dups in vendors, employees, sales orders (open and history) and purchase orders (open and history).

    And, we merged historical sales.

But there are lots of questions to be answered.

Are you running manufacturing?  Field Service?  Any Third Parties?

    RE: Sales History

    Hi Mohan,

Migrating data historical data from one company to another is somewhat consolidating them.

Regardless of your purpose, technically I do not advise this.  One of the problems that may arise is the information of the transactions involved (from the one you are transferring from) will not tie up with what is on the database you are transferring to (ie: Customer Number, Distribution Accounts, etc).

When you try to open an Inquiry window, lets say the Receivables Transaction Inquiry - Customer, you may encounter errors or even duplicate document problems.  There is a chance that there are Customers in the other company that is not present on the other.

Again, this is just my opinion - which agrees with what Soma described.

    Soma,

In fact I am not doing a technical consolidation. I will discontinue using individual companies and start entering using one db. However I want to migrate historical sales.

    Any suggestions?

Consolidating multiple companies DB into single is not advisable.
