Dynamics customer portal

Hi All,

The company I work for would like to implement Dynamics online and allow customers to update their personal details such as address, phone number, email etc through our website and provide a bit of a member only area.

Unfortunately I have been unable to find any good and reliable information about how this can be achieved.  It doesn't seem to be functionality that is integrated into Dynamics "Out of the Box".  It requires a third party plugin (such as adxstudio's offering) or portals/connectors to be installed.  I am not saying this isn't achievable at the end of the day, but it is complicating and management here are not comfortable with all the modification required.  I have also read a little about Sharepoint integrating with CRM online and that confuses the decision even more.

Has anyone been able to find a simple solution for allowing customers to update their details through integration into a website?

Our Content Management system for our website allows for iframe integration easily and I hope if such a solution exists, we could integrate an iframe somehow.

Regards,

Luke...

Unfortunately, Microsoft's target market for Dynamics CRM is not organizations with no development resources. It's designed to be customized to meet the requirements of all sorts of organizations, but customization often requires development.

There are other CRM products available that have customer portals that don't require development skills, but your ability to customize those products to meet your unique requirements is usually very limited.

Thanks Neil, I thought this is the case, but find it annoying that MS can't make the product easier to use for people without CRM development skills.

Luke, there isn't an easy answer for this. Every customer's website is different so there's no such thing as a built-in customer portal with any CRM system. Those CRM systems that claim to have a standard customer portal force you to change your website to use their locked-down portal functionality, so you're no better off.

Most customer choose to start with the Microsoft Customer Portal Accelerator, available as a free download from the Microsoft Dynamics Marketplace. This was developed for Microsoft by ADXstudio and contains a subset of the features available in their commercial ADXstudio Portals product.

But you can use whatever content management system you like (including SharePoint) and integrate it with CRM using the CRM SDK. Either way, you'll need some CRM development skills that goes beyond iFrames.
