Dear D365 SCM Experts,
I wish to get your thoughts regarding the requirement and solution below.
Background: Industry: Distribution. Products are from overseas. Supplying warehouse (called distribution center) will hold and keep all the inventory of xx legal entities. Consider the warehouse as if it's a 3PL.
Requirement: Ability to support the inbound and outbound transactions in D365 with one physical warehouse among xx legal entities.
Proposed Solution: Create a dummy legal entity that represents the DC. The selling entity (one of the xx legal entities) will create a sales order with a direct delivery PO (vendor=dummy entity). The vendor is configured as an intercompany vendor and as the direct delivery PO is created, OOB, it will auto-create intercompany SO to the dummy entity / supplying warehouse (customer=selling entity).
Do you have similar requirements from your past implementations? Any inputs/feedback or alternative solutions will be highly appreciated. I have some concerns about inventory SOH and cost. Thanks in advance.
