I'm just starting making templates in the system and managed to poorly name one with the way the character limit affected the intended name.
Is there some way to delete or update the name of the template?

The template name will be locked once you saved the record. You can consider copy the template and delete the wrongly named one.

I was trying this route as it is not possible to delete templates ever from what I've seen in the forums. There is no where to access the list of templates and no delete button. So basically we are just going to be building a lot of junk templates from day one with no way to delete or update their name to something that makes sense to use.
I think the developers of this section thought the definition of template means a actual form document that requires development and lives permanently with records displayed on it. Not just a template of default information can be filled in from a starting point that requires editing over time.
You can navigate to Accounts receivable > Invoices > Recurring invoices > Free text invoice templates to delete the actual templates.
