Campaign Response Enity mapping to Lead

(0) ShareShare

Hello,

When converting a Campaign Response to a Lead, I can see that the first name, last name, and company name maps over to the Lead. How can make more fields from the Campaign Response entity to map to the Lead enity?

Here's what i tried, but no success:

1. Under the campaign Response Entity, added the 1:N relationship of Campaign Respons to Lead.
2. In the Mappings, I added source fields from the Campaign Response to the Lead.

When I convert the campaign response to a lead, none of those fields mapped across.

What else am I missing?

    Derrell,

What do you mean by "Converting"?

Are you creating a new Lead from within a Campaign Response?

If so, then mapping should work.

If you are "converting" into a Lead by other means (I.E. a Workflow), then mapping would not be utilized.

If open a Campaign and click on the Campaign Response, I can create a Campaign Response record.

After creating the Campaign Response record, I can click on the "Convert Campaign Response" button to convert to a Lead; Quote , Order , Opportunity.

There is no relationship for this in CRM Customizations. Even if I attempted to create one and setup the mapping, it doesn't work.

    Derrell,

I looked into this and you are right, there is no direct relationship between Campaign Response and Lead so let me explain a couple of things:

    a. Your approach regarding creating a relationship would not work with the "Convert" button because the mappings only apply when you create a Lead from that Relationship section (I.E. Open a Campaign Response, Click on "Leads" Section on left navigation pane, click on "New" at the ribbon).

    b. I believe that the relationship applied when Converting a Campaign Response to a Lead (or an Account, Opportunity, quote, etc.) it's called "Campaign Response to ActivityParty" which is not customizable.

So based on this information, I can give you a couple of solutions I would use to deal with this issue and let you pick the one that fits you the most:

    1. If the goal is to convert Campaign Responses quickly into Leads; I would add a Two-Option field called "Convert to Lead" to the Campaign Responses form.

When the user selects "Yes" on that field and saves the campaign response, there is a Workflow that fires up creating a Lead with all the information you need from the Campaign Response and setting the originating campaign response to a "Closed" status.

This solution would require one thing (which you already have), a 1:N relationship between Campaign Response and Lead.

OPTIONAL: You can hide that two-option field and change to "Yes" with a button added to the Ribbon with a label saying "Covert to Lead". The Original "Convert Campaign Response" button can be hidden as well.

    2. If the goal is to populate converted Leads with information from the Campaign they came from; I would create a Workflow that fires up when Leads are created with data on the "Originating Campaign" field that populates the required data from the Campaign included on the Originating Campaign field.

    ---

Let me know if you need help with either option but we should be able to make it work.

    Good Luck!

    Hi,

I have a similar problem. I need to show the campaign response button on the left side of the screen whenever i open any Lead that i have created. By left side i mean the left portion of the screen where you will see the information, activities buttons for that particular lead.

Now i was able to do this by creating an 1:N relationship b/w Leads and Campaign Response entity. So now whenever i open any Leads that i've created i get to see the associated campaign response  on the screen. But the problem is that even if i create any Campaign response from that lead, it is not showing in that campaign response section. I'm able to see that response created in the Activity section but not in the Campaign Response section.

I'm not sure how to correct it. Can any body help?

    Hi Pankaj,

What is the business requirement to have the Campaign Response on the left navigation for the Lead?  Could you put it in a sub-grid on the Lead form instead?  In this case, you would not need the other 1:N relationship you created.  However, you could also develop a workflow or a plug-in to fill out the Lead lookup field on the CR.

PowerObjects has developed some custom things to improve the CR to Lead process.  Those include:

    1) Look-ups to the Account, Contact, and Lead on the CR and a plug-in that fills them out whenever the "Customer" field is filled out.  This allows you to report and do workflows on CRs more easily.

    2) A plug-in that matches new CRs with existing Account, Contact, and Lead

    3) A custom mapping area that allows you to modify the mapping from a CR to an Account, Contact, Lead, or Opportunity

    4) Custom buttons and processes that allow you to convert multiple Campaign Responses at once.

Let me know if you want more information on that.

    Hi Gretchen,

Well the requirement needed the Campaign Response icon on the left navigation pane of the Lead record, may be they wanted to check out all the campaign responses created for a particular Lead. The same thing was to be done for Contacts Entity as well.

Is there a way to do it ? Or should we suggest them something else like what you have written in your comments above.

    Hi Pankaj,

Yes, you an do this without creating a new 1:N relationship by just showing these in a sub-grid.  You will need to create an Activities view that just filters out the Campaign Response because Campaign Response is not available to select as an entity when creating a sub-grid.  If this is the only requirement, then I think a sub-grid is the simplest route.

I would just point out for anyone that stumbles across this question like I did, that the using the Activity record and filtering by Campaign Response doesn't work for Leads, Contacts, and Accounts because the Campaign is the Regarding entity, not the Lead, etc.  As such, when you put that subgrid on the Lead record, it will show up blank, no matter what.

    Hi Wayne,

Campaign may be the regarding on Campaign Activities and possibly activities created or sent through a Campaign/Quick Campaign (such as a Phone Call or Email), but the above is referring to displaying Campaign Responses in a sub-grid.  The "Regarding" (Called Customer out-of-the-box) on a Campaign Response can ONLY be a Lead, Account, or Contact.

I should mention a couple utilities we've developed that address some of the issues described in this post.

    • Activity Utility adds a direct relationship between each of the activities and the Lead, Account, Contact and plugins maintain these fields; so regardless of the Regarding field, you can report and do workflows with the related Account, Contact, or Lead.  It addresses the issues spelled out in this blog.
    • The Campaign Response Utility allows you to create your own mappings between the Campaign Response and the Lead/Account/Contact and then gives you the ability to convert multiple Campaign Responses into Leads, Accounts, Contacts, Opportunities, etc.

These are small things, but solve a big problem for you if you are architecting a solution using Campaign Responses.
