Dynamics GP 2010 Setup Issue

(0) ShareShare

Hi All,

I'm new to GP and have been tasked with setting up an instance of GP 2010 on a server for development testing. We want to install the web services and talk the them using C#.

I was able to go through the setup and have completed the following items

  • Database was created for 'Dynamics'
  • Database was created for the TEST Company
  • The application was install with no errors
  • I was able to run the 'Database Utility' for GP which connects to the newly created database
  • I tested the ODBC data source connection and that was able to connect to the database
  • I tested the SQL connection with the username and password and that connects to that database

The current issue that I'm having now is when I run the GP application and log in I get the following error message,

"This login failed. Attempt to log in again or contact your system administrator."

This is strange as the same username and password works correctly for both the SQL authentication and the ODBC configuration.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. :-)

I apologise, in advance, if I have left out any important information. If more information is needed, I would glad try to get that information.

Thanks.

    Hi Peter,

Did you create ODBC 32bit.  You can go to that by typing in start c:\windows\syswow64\odbcad32

    Hi Babu,

Yes, I did. Is there any specific setting that I should be aware of when creating it?

Hi Peter, Make sure to include the SQL sever name full instance name in ODBC. Also are you login using SA.

Are you trying to connect on the server or from a client computer? If from a client, make sure there are no firewall issues. SQL by default uses port 1433. Which version of SQL are you using and what is the version of the OS?

I'm currently using the full sql instance name in the ODBC but using an account that the DBAs team has setup. This account has sys_admin rights. The SA user has been disabled on the SQL server machine.

Could this be causing this log in issue?

    Hi Richard,

I'm using SQL server 2008R2 and the OS on the SQL server machine is Windows server 2008 R2 Standard. I have disabled the fire wall on both machines and tried that but still no luck.

Yes disabling the sa account is the issue. You need to use the sa account to initially login and create at least one other user. The server name in the ODBC connection is part of the encryption of the user password in the database.

Re-Enable sa and create another user. Then give it the power user roll through GP and the same SQL rights you have mentioned above.

    Regards,

    Kirk

    Hi Kirk,

I will ask the DBA team to enable the SA account for me and I will let all know what the outcome is.

I agree with Kirk please enable SA and login with first time with should fix your problem.  You can give sys admin access to DYNSA and use the for all your admin activities.
