Unable to add ProjLedgerPostingDefinitionEntity to a project in Visual Studio.

Hi,
I am working on D365FO(Update 13) and my requirement is to override a method mapDataSourcetoEntity of entity ProjLedgerPostingDefinitionEntity. According to my understanding, its possible through over-layering. So, created a new model by
selecting existing package ApplicationSuite during create model process and a new project. But, I am unable to add ProjLedgerPostingDefinitionEntity to this newly created project i.e option "Add to project" is greyed out for this entity.
Any suggestions are highly helpful.

Thanks,

Mounika

    Hi Mounika G,

First of all you need to click "Customize" to overlay the entity. However, ProjLedgerPostingDefinitionEntity does not have mapDataSourcetoEntity  method defined, so there is nothing to overlay. Instead of overlaying you can create new class and subscribe to onMappingDatasourceToEntity or onMappedDatasourceToEntity events to add new logic.

Another option to avoid overlaying is simply copy an entity and do all changes required.

    Hi Ievgen,

Really thanks for your answer. Another small question What if I want to modify/add some custom code to the existing method like ValidateWrite as when I clicked on "Customize" button I am getting below error.

    UnauthorisedAccess.JPG

    Thanks,

    Mounika

Did you click "Customize" ? it should add it tothe project in your overlaying model, then open it from the project and you should be able to edit it.

Could you please confirm that project you are using belongs to application suite package ?

Please note that you won't be able to use customised entity in version 8.0 and later and you won't be able to upgrade to 8.0.

I would recommend you to use extension or create new entity.

    Hi Ievgen,

Project doesn't belong to Application suite package but to a model that is created in Application Suite package. Anyway I had the answer and will follow your suggestion of either creating an extension (or) a new entity.

    Thanks,

    Mounika
