Need independent advice regarding what to do- we are using CRM online with Office 365

I engaged a couple of years ago with a consultant that provided some customization so that CRM could integrate with our ERP (Digital Gateway Eautomate) and also customized some screens and fields. As time has passed we have ever increasingly experienced error and script messages to the point that I asked to just re-install the CRM software from scratch and start all over again........I am leary about going down another rabbit hole and could you some advice on what to do. .Here was the consultants reply

"I did some research this afternoon into this issue, and unfortunately a good handful of the Solutions in your Production environment are Unmanaged, which means we can’t simply delete the Solutions out of your environment. This wasn’t a problem with the way we installed these Solutions as much as not knowing that we would be removing them at some point down the road.

I debated a few options, and I think the most cost-effective and time-efficient option is going to have you purchase another online org, and then I can have MSFT copy your current org over to this org. I will then begin the process of removing everything that is custom from the new org, and I will note down every step I take. Once that organization is in a stable state, I can have you guys log in, take a look around, and make sure everything is OK. Once you verify that things look good, I’ll reproduce this on the Production environment.

I understand that purchasing a 2nd environment is not ideal financially, but I do NOT want to start this process directly on your Production environment, especially during working hours, and start doing things that might negatively impact your end users. This is going to be unchartered waters, so to speak, as we’ve never back out an entire environment’s worth of changes before. I don’t want to try things that may or may not work, and then screw up your live production environment. I’m sensitive to the fact you have a lot of valuable data in there, so I want to make sure this goes smoothly, and the best way to do this is to have an org that you guys aren’t actively using to work with.

In terms of total financial cost, it’s going to be the cost of a new online org, which I believe ~$2,500 (I’ll have to contact MSFT for the exact cost), and then it’s going to take about 30-40 hours of work to complete. As I said above, since we haven’t done this before, and this process will likely result in some hit/miss attempts at removing things, it’s going to take some time and a little bit of MSFT’s help to do.

Please let me know what you’d like to do. I have a slew of calls tomorrow morning, but I do have sporadic availability in the afternoon, so if you’d like to talk, I’d be happy to make some time to do so.

Is there some reason I can't export all contacts and customers and just import back into using new liscences?

    Hi,

It would be a little bit unfair to rate the decision of your implementation partner. It all depends on the amount of data you have in your crm system and the depth of customisation. Maybe his plan could also work with a 30-day trial system of crm online. But as I said, this is truly speculative without knowing details about the complexity of your crm system.

You seemed to have overlooked that you can create free Sandbox instances: technet.microsoft.com/.../dn659833.aspx

Second option would be to start a free trial of 30 days. Cost nothing and only drawback is that you lose it after 30 days!

    Hope this helps,

A sandbox instance is of course another possibility. It is free for you if you have at least 25 professional users. One of the details missing to provide an adequate answer.
