P&L net income doesn't equal balance sheet net income

My P&L year to date net income is not rolling up into balance sheet net income. This is not a prior year issue. My assistant controller used to do this and left vague instructions about "merging 00 accounts toward month so RE and NI aren't off", but she didnt leave steps. Anyone do this step and can share how to?
