Sales Item Description Limit in Invoice

(0) ShareShare

So, we have verified that in the sales order invoice for GP 10, there appears to be a 100 character limit in the item description. However, when printing out the invoice to send to the customer, it cuts off the description after 40 characters. This is obviously causing some big time issues, when not able to have any acceptable length of item description. We would like to be able to at least get the invoice to print the 100 character limit, instead of cutting off at 40. What would be better is to find out how to lengthen the item description limit in sales order invoices, so we can be more descriptive, and also to get user defined fields that we have customized to be able to show up in an invoice as well.

All of this is a report writer solution.   If you need even more characters, consider using the comments on the line item.

You are running into a limitation. The Report Writer will only handle an 80 character string. The format of the invoice does not even display a field of that length. David Musgrave has provided a detailed article on how to use the ParseString user-defined function to create calculated fields that will overcome this limitation. Check it out:

    Hello!

It looks like the information in the link that Leslie provided has answered your question regarding extending the line item description past 40 characters on a sales invoice.

If you have any questions on modifying the report you will need to submit a support incident or contact your Microsoft Partner for assistance.

    Best regards,
