Is it possible to schedule the dynamics GP 2010 to start and shutdown to particular time automatically everyday?

Hello folks,

Can I specify time in Microsoft dynamics GP 2010.

where user can enter there transactions in given interval of time for instance - 7:00  to 19:30. In this time user can access the GP and complete their day to day transactions, after that they should not login GP.

Thanks.

    @Leslie Vail

    Thanks  for your answer.

Firstly, I too think to restrict the end user to login into remote desktop. but, other works they can't do. So, I drop the idea.

It good if i restrict them on particular database. other things go smoothly.

    Best Regards,

Definitely you have to plan things carefully before going for any solution, question is how far you can go and what precautions you can take.

With solution I have already mention and in addition of small custom code you can even handle the gp logout when user allotted time ends to use GP.

You don't need to forcefully stop posting process, if user have initiated it in correct time period, you can keep it running by checking background process is running or not.

Custom code can check the time and stop user accessing GP forms anymore.

You can make your schedule to run more than once by setting different time, so GP will close softly and nicely when schedule run let say in an hour.

I also intended to mention that if the user is already logged in at the point when the time window expires, then it leaves you with another issue of how to gracefully log them out of the system. There are auto logout tools out there, but they are not aggressive as you should not force someone out of the system in the middle of posting, for example, so simply killing the user's activity records is not cool.

I read this question as that you would like to be able to restrict the hours between which a certain user can use GP.

This is not functionality that exists in the standard product.

A suggestion would be to investigate disabling the SQL users in SQL using a SQL job(not in GP tables, the actual database). Then re-enable after the time period is up. I have not tried this myself, so would need some research, but is the only way I can see without a modification to the login window...

    Tim.

It is possible to schedule GP login and logout on specific time by using windows schedule and macros. (I just did this for auto post custom solution for one of our client)

You can use 'Remember user and password' feature so can avoid saving passwords in macro files and also force user to do the stuff in specific time as they don't know their GP user password and so can not login back to GP after certain period.

As Heather said, you cannot do this from within GP, but your IT folks can deny access to the databases when that user shouldn't be logged in. Theusers can have access to everything else except GP.

    Kind regards,

    Leslie

    Hi

There is no way to do that from within the application as far as I am aware.

In the later versions of GP (certainly 2015 R2 - it may have come in a bit earlier) - you can take companies offline, but you can't schedule it.  You would have to manually put them offline and back on again.

    Cheers

    Heather
