Planning for Groups of Parts

Posted on by 57
Hello,

We have different part numbers for the same part but for each ship-to location (customer plant location). For example: we have 123A01 and 123A02 setup as different part numbers although it's essentially the same part. The only difference between these part numbers is different packaging and labels. We receive the demand from customers separately for each ship-to location.

However, when we run master planning, we get Planned Production Orders for each of these part numbers. Is there any way to group these Planned Production Orders for the "same part" (probably Product Family)? And then have a point where we can decouple these into separate parts to (01, 02 etc.) to be run for production.

Thank you,
Mayukh

This would be not best practice to have two different items for the same product essentially , my
guess is your requirement can be acheived using external item description

as for decoupling point coverage code , this for building a buffer value profile of min- reorder - max values and making lower level item in the BOM as make to stock in order to reduce the final lead time of a finished good, if this answered you inquiry kindly mark the answer or provide more detail

    Planning for Groups of Parts
    Hi Laurens,

    Thanks for your answer!

We use separate part numbers because we have different physical packaging for each part number (the box is different and labelling is different for each ship-to location) and we do line side labelling.

I saw there was a 'Decoupling point' feature that was recently added. Do you think it is possible to use this to decouple the demand from Aggregate Parts (123A) to Specific Parts (123A01, 123A02 etc)?

    Any thoughts are appreciated.

    Hello Mayukh,

Why do you have different part numbers as it is essentially the same part?

I think you can manage the packaging requirement with unit conversions:

The labeling is possible with Warehouse management.

I don't think it is possible to group planned production orders with different items numbers and degroup/decouple them again.

    Best regards,
    Laurens van der Tang
