Cannot create a container where users can drag and drop content in custom email

Hi

I'm new to Dynamics and am trying to create some custom email templates where users can drag and drop content into.

I'm following the instructions here: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365/marketing/custom-template-attributes#enable-the-drag-and-drop-editor-after-import

But If I create super simple HTML to test e.g.

    My Email Subject

LOCKED

As per the example I am unable to drag anything into the email designer (Design elements or Content Blocks). What am I missing?

Thanks

Jon

    Hi jwcpc,

This has nothing to do with the header file, the problem lies in the content of the body.

Obviously, the editor can't recognize this code, it can't tell how much space is taken up by the "LOCKED" section, so it can't place the Layout section.

Usually, we change the existing code to ensure that all the code works,

If you want to keep the content of your template unaltered, you can refer to this link:

     https://community.dynamics.com/365/marketing/f/dynamics-365-for-marketing-forum/350978/is-it-possible-to-disable-edit-on-email-templates-for-specific-users

    Thanks Haig for your response.

So it sounds like the documentation is somewhat misleading here, I thought it would be possible to use our own custom templates where users could simply drop content blocks in. The documentation states:

The bit in blue links to this:

But from what you're saying it sounds like everything needs to be contained in a Dynamics 'Layout section'. So seems Dynamics template builder is somewhat behind curve of other Automation platforms in that really you need to either use Dynamics Layout Section or just build your email outside of Dynamics and Import.

Hopefully this is something that will improve with future releases.
