Editing opportunity records in excel online does not get saved to CRM

I am trying to change the "business process flow" status of a list of opportunity records in excel online.

I made a personal view of the opportunities that I wanted to change and then chose open in Excel Online. From Excel Online I can change from a drop down list and choose the business process flow status I want. I then click "save to CRM". It says in the data section of settings that the import was successful.

However when I look at the opportunity records back in CRM the status of the business process flow is unchanged.

Btw, the reason I want to do this in Excel Online rather than in CRM is because in CRM you are required to fill in a bunch of mandatory fields, in order to go forward in the business process flow. For these records this mandatory stuff is not required so we want to save time by changing them in Excel Online.

Any reason why the Excel Online changes are not applied even though it says import was successful? Or any tips on a workaround?

Thanks in advance.

Hi River, thanks for reaching out.

The BPF cannot be changed through the import/update process. I think the spring release will allow more flexibility around this, but I have not been successful changing BPF through import.

If when you open the record the mandatory fields are in the BPF, you should be able to change the BPF using the action bar at top. If the mandatory fields are on the form then the best workaround is to create another form that has those fields not be mandatory. If this is a permanent situation then maybe a business rule could look at a field and determine if those fields should have the requirement turned off, thus allowing the BPF to change.

Let me know if this helps.
