Is it possible to install Email router as Active-Passsive on a Active-Active cluster for Microsoft CRM Application?

Posted on by 505

Hi All,

For MS CRM Application server, we will have 2 virtual machines. Both of them will have MS CRM application, set-up in a Active-Active cluster.

For email router, we thought we could install router also on both these application servers, but according to Technet (https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh699708%28v=crm.6%29.aspxits not possible to setup router as Active-Active.

My question is whether its ok if we install router as Active on one of the above virtual machine, and have it as passive on the other virtual machine?

If my question doesn't make much sense, please let me know.

Regards,

Yogesh

    Thanks David.

So you mean Email Router can be setup as Active-Passive cluster on the same servers that have MS CRM setup for load-balancing?

There's a possible confusion in terminology here. The CRM application is stateless, and you would normally use a load-balancing technology for this, rather than clustering (note that, unfortunately the MS documentation re load balancing for CRM does refer to 'failover cluster'). You might cluster the SQL Servers, but not the CRM server.

I don't know any reason why you couldn't setup an Active-Passive cluster for the Email Router, whilst using load balancing for the CRM application
