Adding Users to Dev Environment

If I added the current production users to the dev environment, could I create a different password for them so that they (the users) can not get into the dev environment accidently?

My goal is to be able to develop a security model that best suits the needs of our client.   Using the actual users and roles would be helpful.  How could I achieve this?

    Hi maustin,

    In Dynamics CRM 365 Online, you can use Office 365 Security Groups to control user access to different CRM instances.

    Below article explains the steps.

    This article is about adding users to the group which has access to the dev.  What I am specifically looking for is how I can avoid end users from accidently going into the dev environment.  When I add users to the group that has access to the dev, the end user will now see an option on which instance they would like to sign into.

    I can see it now, many of the users accidently logging into the dev instance and freaking out because there sales are different, or an opportunity is not there.

    If I can't change the password for the user on the dev instance, is there a way to bypass the portal page that lets you choose what instance you would like to sign into.  And have only the admin be able to choose the dev.

    Hi maustin,

    An Office 365 user is like an On-Premises AD user.  You can't change the password of a user for a specific CRM instance.  You have few options.

    Option 1:

    Create different user accounts for DEV and PROD.  Then add DEV Users to DEV security group and PROD users to PROD security group.

    Option 2:

    Bookmark the URLs for DEV and PROD and navigate directly.  For example the URLs should be like;

    DEV - mycrm-dev.crm.dynamics.com

    PROD - mycrm-prod.crm.dynamics.com

    Change the Theme of the DEV environment, so that it's obvious it's a DEV environment.  I usually, change the colour and add a logo which clearly states it's a DEV instance.

    Cheers,

    Nadeeja
