Electronic Reporting - missing mappings after template update

I'm on 10.0.8 PU 32 and I'm having difficulties while updating ER template from Excel. When I click on Import -> Update from Excell in Format designer and Update the template (even with the same template with no changes) I suddenly loose all mappings on the left side of the editor. Here's what i click on to update the template and how the mappings are gone after updating the template.

And it's not just those mapping that are being cleared - all the mappings are gone. That would make updating the template rather tedious if one would have to recreate every single mapping on it ;)

I've tested it on 10.0.7 PU31 and it's the same - the mappings are gone after updating from Excel. I've tried updating from the same file downloaded from original attachment, from a modified file, I've manipulated with file names and all that to no avail.

Have any one else faced this behaviour? Am I doing something wrong and it causes the mappings to go poof?

Update: solution was found.

The reason was explayned to me on yammer by Nikolay Selin (thanks Nikolay!), who wrote:

It seems to me that you have not selected the Create Excel Sheet format element option on the template import page. Therefore, when you imported your modified template, you placed to format, for example, the RptHeader_ReportTitle cell as Excel\Range\Cell<RptHeader_ReportTitle. As it has been initially defined as Excel\Sheet\Range\Cell<RptHeader_ReportTitle, ER considers this cell as a new one. Therefore, it has been added to format as a new Excel\Range\Cell<RptHeader_ReportTitle element having no binding. Since the presented in the format Excel\Sheet\Range\Cell<RptHeader_ReportTitle element is not presented in the new structure any longer, it has been deleted from the format along with its binding. Try to select the Create Excel Sheet format element option when you import the updated template if the original format structure contains Sheet elements.

I thought I would post it for future reference or for others, who were stumbling on that as I was ;)

Reason for that situation was explained by Nikolay Selin. I've updated first post with it.

    Hi Janusz,

could you please add a screenshot where exactly the Create Excel Sheet format element option can be found? One picture tells more than words.

    Thank you!

    Hi EvelynFoerster,

    Of course, there you go:

When you click on Import -> Update from Excel you are presented with a dialog, where you have two checkboxes/slider thingies. First of them is the one you are interested in :)

It is not working even with that flag ticked..

    Hi Alessandro,

To tell you the truth I'm no longer using Add template, Update template or Update from Excel functionalities any more. Instead I simply delete the attachment, add a new one and select it in the Template drop down and finally I click Save for the whole format. It then updates nodes in the format as well as updates the template itself with mappings if necessary.
